It’s not officially the MLB playoffs until Mattress Mack places a six-figure wager on his hometown team, the Houston Astros. Mattress Mack bet $250,000 on the Astros at +150 odds to win Game 1 of the AL Wild Card Series against the Minnesota Twins (36-24), who lost 16 postseason games in a row. Mack also backed the Astros (29-31) to win the World Series at 30/1 odds.

Mack, a furniture store magnate from Houston named Jim McIngvale, made national headlines last October when he wagered and lost money on the Houston Astros to win the 2019 World Series.

His largest wager occurred at the Scarlet Pearl Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi, where they booked a $3.5 million bet on the Astros to win the championship at +220 odds.

Mack sought to recoup potential losses for a popular promotion with his furniture stores.

Mattress Mack ran a “Win It All’ promotion where he’d refund your purchase ($3,000 and higher) if the Astros won the World Series. To cover the potential refunds, Mack needed to generate $20 million in cash. He headed to Las Vegas, and sportsbooks in New Jersey and Mississippi, to place multiple wagers on the Astros.

The Astros lost to the Washington Nationals and Mattress Mack lost $13 million in futures bets and wagers. He didn’t have to refund his customers though, so he still profited on the promo.

Mattress Mack Again

Mattress Mack last made headlines when he donked off  $1 million on the Super Bowl. He didn’t like the Kansas City Chiefs for some reason, and backed the San Francisco 49ers at +120 to win Super Bowl 54. That didn’t work out for him.

Jimmy Vaccaro posted a semi-cryptic tweet with an image of a wager ticket from the South Point Sports Book in Las Vegas. The bettor wagered $10,000 that the Astros will win the 2020 World Series. The South Point’s futures odds on the Astros were 30/1 as one of the long shots on the board. The winning ticket would pay $310,000, or a hefty profit of $300,000.

Darren Rovell confirmed the World Series futures bet over the weekend.

Mack Fading the Twins

The Minnesota Twins have been horrible in the postseason with an 0-16 clip in their last 16 playoff games. A lot of those ugly games occurred due the Twins’ aversion to the New York Yankees. For some odd reason, the Yankees own the Twins in the postseason. The Twins can never beat those damn Yankees and, for that reason, are ecstatic to play the Astros in the AL Wild Card Series.

The #5 NY Yankees battle the #4 Cleveland Indians in the wild-card round. The Twins and Astros face each other in a best-of-three series. The Circa Sports Book in Las Vegas listed the Astros at +160 underdogs to win the series, The Twins are -185 odds to knock out the Astros.

Mattress Mack bet the Astros in Game 1 for a quarter of a million bucks, according to VSIN’s Pauly Howard. He booked his $250,000 wager for the Astros at +150 odds in Mississippi. Mack will bank a profit of $375,000 if the Twins lose Game 1 and the winning ticket will pay out $625,000.
