Roulette Betting Strategy Guide

Roulette is one of the most popular and exciting games offered in the entire casino. Part of the reason for this popularity is the huge payoffs it can yield. Imagine getting a 35 to 1 payout for simply choosing the correct number?

On top of this, roulette is a gambling game that has long enjoyed an air of sophistication over the years. The game has been immortalized in television and movies more times than you can count or remember. There are many stories about those who have played the game with kings and queens, famous politicians or even celebrities. No wonder James Bond was often featured playing roulette in those famous movies.

Overview of Roulette Strategy:

As with all gambling games, online roulette has a negative expectation. However, that doesn't mean you can't limit the amount of negative EV you're exposed to and swing the pendulum of luck in your favor. In fact, if you check out the top roulette betting strategies we've outlined in this article, you'll find that this game is actually one of the most profitable options in the virtual gaming world.

Before we dive headfirst into online gambling roulette techniques, let's quickly look at some of the things you shouldn't do at the table. Although these tips might seem obvious to some, they are worth reiterating for any internet gambling, roulette novices.

Don't look for patterns: The process of tracking numbers and searching for a pattern during a game of online roulette is pointless. Each spin is an independent event and not influenced by the previous spin. Therefore, the chances of discovering a roulette betting pattern you can exploit is virtually zero.

Don't bet more than you can afford: When it comes to internet gambling, roulette can be an expensive proposition, which means bankroll management is crucial. Each bet you make must be made in the context of your starting bankroll. The minimum amount of money you should look to have on you when you sit down at a roulette table is 40 spins. Thus, if you're betting $10 per spin, then you should have around $400 on you in order t play a sustained and strategically sound session.

Don't wager more than you stand to win: When you gamble online, roulette boards can often trick you into betting more than you can stand to win. Because of the sheer number of options, it can often be tempting to cover as many numbers as possible in the hope of gaining a win. To guide your betting, roulette wagers should always be relatively stable each time you spin the wheel. Any wild fluctuations will often end up costing you money.

The Best Roulette Betting Techniques

Now we've given you a list of don'ts it's time to have a look at some of the wagering techniques you should do if you want to make money in the online gambling world.

Three Step Martingale:

You may already be familiar with the original Martingale wagering system. This is the infamous double-up system, where you take an even money wager and then double your previous bet after each loss. After a win, you return to a single unit bet. The theory behind this one is simple enough: you can't lose every bet.

Sadly, when it comes to gambling online, roulette and every game in between, the Martingale system has duped a lot of people. The problem comes, in the case of roulette anyway, once you realize that there are many times when the wheel can display a string of 10, 12, 15 or even more of the same color (with a few green zeros mixed in for good measure). If you were doubling your bet after each loss, you would soon be maxed out due to the table wagering limits. After you have already lost hundreds or thousands of dollars, it can be tough to fight your way back. Plus, do you really want to be wagering 1,000 units (or more) just to break even or come out 1 unit ahead?

To combat this deficiency, the three-stage Martingale is a new strategy that focuses on placing a maximum of three wagers in a run.

For example, take any even money bet such as red/black, odd/even or high/low. Wait for a string of three or four (you can decide how many) of one result and then wager on the opposite side for a single unit. If the bet wins, stop and wait until you have a new string of three or four. If the bet loses, then double your wager for the next spin. If it loses again, double up for your third bet. You are risking a maximum of seven units total for a profit of one unit (any winning wager returns a net profit of one unit).

Columns Plus Black:

On a single zero (European) roulette wheel, the first and third columns cover most of the red numbers. In fact, it covers all of them except the four reds in the middle column and the zero. This wager entails placing two units each on the first and third columns and another two units on black. The idea behind this system is essentially to lower your risk and be able to play for a longer period of time.

There are several possible results. A red number in the first or third column will lead to you breaking even. One of the four red numbers in the middle column or the zero will result in a loss of all six units. A black in the middle column means a loss of two units. However, a black number in the first or third column is a net win of four units.

Number Plus Neighbors:

This is an interesting bet that plays off the positioning of numbers on the wheel itself. With such a wager, you are basically observing that the dealer possibly has a tendency to come close to certain numbers on a more or less consistent basis. Of course, more or less consistent is pretty subjective and this is all really a lot of guesswork. But who knows, you might get lucky with such a system. To put this into play, determine how many neighbors you want and then pick your desired target number. This could be a 5 unit bet using 0 and its two neighbors (on either side). In this case, you place your chips on the 3, 26, 0, 32, and 15.

There are also a number of variations on this. You could also choose to make the wager on 0 two units. Or include more neighbors, although this can get a bit tricky in terms of physically placing the bets in time. The bottom line to this method is to simply observe the wheel for a bit before placing your wagers and then decide which area of the wheel seems to be hitting more than the others.

Neighbors Of Zero:

This is a version of the last strategy, the most popular version in fact. It is also called voisins du zero and is given to the numbers which surround the single zero on the European roulette wheel: 25, 2, 21, 4, 19, 15, 32, 0, 26, 3, 35, 12, 28, 7, 29, 18, and 22. This is seven numbers on either side of zero, plus the zero itself.

You can place this wager in several ways. The most obvious is a single chip or unit on each number straight up. However, this can be a technical or physical challenge in terms of actually placing the bets in time. So, an alternate method is the following:

Place two chips on the 0, 2 and 3 street

Place one chip on the 4-7 split

Another chip on the 12-15 split

One more chip on the 18-21 split

Another single unit on the 19-22 split

Two chips on the 25-25-28-29 corner

One last chip on the 32-35 split
