Sources close to the deal claim the negotiations between the two clubs will be completed when the trade window reopens on Dec. 16, following the NWSL expansion draft. It’s not clear what Orlando will get in return in order to let Morgan go.

Defender Ali Krieger and goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris also left Orlando recently, moving to NJ/NY Gotham FC. In exchange, Orlando received a 2022 NWSL Draft first-round selection, a 2023 NWSL Draft natural third-round pick, and $50,000 in allocation money.

32-year-old World Cup winner Morgan will mark her third time as a key player on a new franchise when her move to San Diego Wave becomes official. Morgan began her NWSL club career with Portland Thorns FC in 2013 before moving to Orlando ahead of their expansion season in 2016.

Morgan also had brief stints in Europe for Lyon in 2017 and Tottenham Hotspur in 2020. In the United States national team shirt, she netted 115 goals in 190 games.
