NFL Week 6 was a little more back to form after a bombastic Week 5. The winning $100,000 lineup on DraftKings’ Play-Action contest was gronkspike9, who scored 258.14, putting him more than 12 DFS points ahead of his nearest competitor.

Last week, I focused on value plays below $5,000 on DK. Some of those worked out very well, while others were total busts. Let’s dive in.

Cheers

With an interim head coach in Washington looking to focus on the run, and a weak opponent in the Dolphins, Adrian Peterson looked to be in a good spot. While by no means did he crush – primarily because he didn’t score a touchdown – Peterson put up solid numbers of 118 rushing yards on 23 carries and two receptions for 18 yards. His 18.6 DFS points were a 4x return on his $4,500 salary.

The strategy of locking in whichever tight end is facing the Cardinals continues to be a winning play. The Falcons’ Austin Hooper had eight receptions for 117 yards and a TD in a losing effort on Sunday, earning more than 5x his value. On a DFS forum, I read one successful cash game player espouse that his strategy is to pay up for quarterback and running backs, fill in with cheap or mid-tier receivers, pick New England or Miami’s opponent as a defense, and use the tight end playing Arizona. Sounds like a solid strategy to me.

Jeers

Gardner who? Gardner Minshew II seemed like a great value for just $5,000 at home against the Saints after averaging nearly 20 DFS points per game since stepping in for the injured Nick Foles. But, the Jags’ game against New Orleans became a grind-it-out slog, and Jacksonville didn’t score a single TD. Minshew threw for 163 yards and a pick, scoring just 5.62 DFS points on DK, and 4.62 points on FanDuel.

After a few weeks on fire, Falcons’ receiver Mohamed Sanu cooled off on Sunday. Although the Falcons scored four TDs, he wasn’t a part of any of them, finishing fifth on the team in receiving yards with 29 on three catches.

The Dolphins’ Preston Williams was another value pick who put up stats incredibly close to Sanu’s, with three receptions, 31 yards, and no TDs. Miami’s Josh Rosen and Ryan Fitzpatrick really spread the ball around, with no receiver gaining more than 51 yards, but seven of them gaining at least 15 yards. Too bad it was in a losing effort to the Redskins, 17-16, as that may have been the Dolphins’ best chance at winning a game all season.
