Rutgers tried the lateral and failed last week, but earned a Week 10 highlight after perfecting the play on Saturday. It was one of the few plays that went right for the Scarlet Knights in their 49-27 loss to Ohio State.
The lateral happened early in the fourth quarter. Avery Young fielded a punt at the Rutgers 42-yard line. He then turned and threw the football across the field to Bo Melton who ran 58 yards for the touchdown.

That made the score, 42-22. While Rutgers lost the game, they did, however, cover the 38.5-point spread.
Keep Your Hands to Yourself
In another highlight, a referee might be getting a reprimand after getting a little too physical with Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger. The Longhorns signal-caller was knocked down after a pass and the ref lent a helping hand to lift Ehlinger off the turf.

What followed was an awkward interaction between official and player. Four butt pats and a caress equals a civil union in some cultures. Ehlinger didn’t seem fazed by it, but Big 12 officials might be having a word with the over-enthusiastic referee about respecting personal space.
A Better Use of Hands
Indiana wide receiver Ty Fryfogle used his hand in a much more positive way. The senior made an incredible one-handed grab against Michigan in the Hoosiers 38-21 upset of the Wolverines.

Fryfogle had seven catches for 142 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. was 30 of 50 for 342 yards and three touchdowns.
Up, Up, and Away
The Pac-12 returned to action on Saturday, and USC running back Markese Stepp looked like he was in mid-season form. The sophomore scored after a two-yard leap into the end zone.

The Trojans survived a scare from Arizona State and held off the Sun Devils, 28-27. USC stayed at No. 20 in the AP Top 25 Poll.

Arkansas State had a chance to get on the scoreboard first when they marched 72 yards down the field on their opening drive to the Louisiana-Lafayette three-yard line. The drive stalled there, but kicker Blake Grupe lined up for a relatively easy 21-yard field goal.

The kick, however, clanged off the right upright, the sound echoing throughout the mostly empty stadium. The Red Wolves could have used the points. Arkansas State lost to the Ragin’ Cajuns, 27-20.
Coach Gets Chest Bump Revenge
We have seen a couple of instances of players and coaches chest-bumping after a big play, and it’s usually the coach who gets the worst of it.
In Saturday’s Michigan-Indiana game, Hoosier defensive back Devon Matthews intercepted Michigan quarterback Joe Milton late in the fourth quarter. When Matthews returned to the sideline, an assistant coach greeted him with a chest bump, knocking Matthews to the ground.

If we were cruel, we’d say that was the hardest Matthews got hit all game against Michigan.
