It’s another bad beat for the Washington Football team, who are playing without a starting offensive lineman, quarterback, and now tight end after the team announced that Logan Thomas will miss at least four weeks with a hamstring injury.

Thomas suffered the initial injury in the first quarter of the Atlanta Falcons game, in which Washington held on to win 34-30. He did not see any targets or touches before he tweaked his hamstring. An MRI revealed a strained hamstring and not a tear.

In the first three weeks of the season, Thomas caught 12 receptions for 117 yards and two touchdowns. Last season, Logan started every game and notched 72 receptions for 670 yards and six touchdowns.

“That’s tough to see Logan go down,” said teammate Terry McLaurin. “He’s a big target even when he’s covered. You want to talk about contested catches, even when he’s covered he’s open.”

Logan and Washington hope his injury heals by Week 10 when the Tampa Bay Bucs visit DC. With a bye week scheduled for Week 9, Thomas could miss just three games. Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick hopes he can also be ready in time for the Bucs, but he’s still not recovered from a Week 1 hip injury.

Backup Ricky Seals-Jones will take over as the starting tight end. Rookie John Bates moves up the depth chart as the new backup TE. Seals caught two passes for 19 yards in relief of Thomas last week.

“It’s Ricky’s turn now,” said Taylor Heinicke. “He did a great job against Atlanta. You’ve seen him progress throughout camp and this year and making some plays. We feel very confident in Ricky.”

Washington is currently in second place in the NFC East trailing the first-place Dallas Cowboys.

In Week 5, Washington hosts the New Orleans Saints in a battle of 2-2 teams. Some oddsmakers opened that matchup as a pick’em, but the public jumped on the Saints. The line is currently Saints -2 with Washington as a home dog.
