The Jacksonville Jaguars closed the door on the Blake Bortles chapter in their lives and ushered in the Nick Foles era by signing the former Super Bowl MVP to a four-year deal worth $88 million.
Foles will be averaging $22 million a season through 2022. He also takes home a guaranteed $50 million. His contract includes incentives and bonus that could push the overall value to over $100 million.
Foles beat the New England Patriots to win Super Bowl LIII as a back-up quarterback with the Philadelphia Eagles. In the last two postseasons, Foles is 4-1 with a Super Bowl victory.
Last season, Foles went 4-1 as a starter in the regular season and 1-1 in the playoffs. Foles played five games for Carson Wentz, who missed the start of the 2018 season recovering from a knee injury. Wentz also missed the end of the season and the playoffs due to a fractured back.
Up and Down Career
Nick Foles played seven seasons in the NFL and appeared in 55 games. He never played a full season with 11 games as his highest season total.
Foles started 44 games with a 26-18 record. If you toss out his rookie season with the Eagles (1-5) and disregard his hellacious year under Jeff Fisher with the St. Louis Rams (4-7), Foles is 21-6 as a starter.
After a horrendous year in St. Louis, where he tied a career-high with 10 interceptions, Foles almost quit the game. He second guessed everything up until that point. Then again, at this point, everyone knows Jeff Fisher is a horrible offensive coach. Once Foles stepped into better offensive schemes, he began to flourish.
Chip Kelly got the most out of Foles during the 2013 season. Foles went to the Pro Bowl that year with 27 touchdowns and only two interceptions.
When Carson Wentz went down for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017, Foles struggled as a backup. Head coach Doug Pederson decided to use old plays from Kelly’s playbook to find ways to make Foles successful. The adapted playbook proved to be a huge key to the resurgence of Foles. With a revamped backup QB, the Eagles ran the table last season.

John DeFilippo failed as an offensive coordinator with the Minnesota Vikings. The team fired him midseason after they completely forgot to run the ball, even though they had Dalvin Cook and Latavius Murray on the field.
John DeFilippo resurfaced in Jacksonville as the new Jaguars offensive coordinator. DeFilippo previously worked as a quarterbacks coach for the Eagles during the year they won the Super Bowl. With Foles on the squad, DeFilippo and Foles are reunited once again. Every Jags fan is happy to not have to watch Blake Bortles every Sunday. Now, they are praying that Foles and DeFilippo can reignite some of the special magic they conjured up in Philly.
According to the South Point Casino and Sports Book in Las Vegas, the Jacksonville Jaguars improved to 30/1 odds to win the Super Bowl in 2019.
