AC Milan technical director Paolo Maldini revealed that Zlatan Ibrahimovic plans to extend his stay at the club for one more year. He’ll be 41 in 2023. Zlatan’s contract runs out at the end of the current season.
“Zlatan knows what he wants, he doesn’t fake anything, he knows what the possible agreement with Milan could be,” Maldini told DAZN. “If he doesn’t feel like continuing, he’ll be the first to say it. But his idea is to continue. Zlatan will never be a burden on this team, but only a resource,” the Milan official added.
Ibrahimovic joined Milan in Dec. 2019 on a six-month contract with the option to extend for a further year activated after a few months. In Apr. 2021, he signed another extension to stay in Serie A until the end of the 2021-22 season.
Even though injuries have stopped him from playing as much as he wished, Ibrahimovic still had a strong impact at Milan. In total, he scored 36 goals in the 66 games he played during the past two years across all competitions. This season, he netted eight times in 19 outings under the AC Milan crest.
Ibrahimovic was unavailable for Milan’s derby clash against arch-rivals Inter on Saturday. The Rossoneri won the match at San Siro 2-1 and are now just one point behind Inter in the Serie A table. The defending champions have a game in hand and could extend their lead to four points in a best-case scenario for them.
Inter are at -400 to win the league again this season, with Napoli at +800 and AC Milan at +1100.
