Winning by 11 shots on Sunday, Johnson jumped 14 spots in the FedEx Cup Playoff standings. Being No. 1 now gives Johnson the edge with two events remaining. It’s a title that Johnson says he would love to capture.

“Well, for me, it’s something I haven’t won,” Johnson said on Sunday. “It’s something I’ve been close to winning a few times, and it’s just something that I would really like to have on my resume when I’m done playing golf. You know, it’s a big title. It means a lot to all the guys out here. It definitely means a lot to me, and it’s something that I really want to be a FedEx Cup Champion.”

In addition to being in first place in the FedEx Cup Playoffs, Johnson is the top pick to win this week’s BMW Championship, which begins Thursday at Olympia Fields outside of Chicago.

Even though Johnson is the favorite to win the BMW, and is the new favorite to win the FedEx Cup Playoffs, he knows anything can happen in the last two tournaments.

“The new format, everyone’s got a chance to win,” Johnson said. “So no matter what position I’m in going into East Lake, I’m still going to have to go play really good golf if I want to win the FedEx Cup.”

Several Golfers Still Have Shots at FedEx Cup

One of the players with a strong chance to move up in the FedEx Cup Playoffs is Jon Rahm. The Spaniard is 10/1 to win the playoff, and the second pick at 10/1 to win the BMW Championship.

Rahm finished tied for sixth at The Northern Trust after a slow start. He said he played well despite struggling with one part of his game.

“Hopefully I can keep this going,” Rahm said. “I hit the driver the last few days as good as I have in a while, really comfortable, the ball flight, and really solid off the tee overall, but need to tidy up the iron game a little bit. I think that’s what let me down this week.”
