Slam dunks are a popular spectacle in the world of basketball, and some of the greatest players have pulled off incredible dunks that literally defy gravity. We’ve compiled the top 10 greatest slam dunks of all time that were produced during a match.
Everyone from Michael Jordan to Kobe Bryant are on show here, so let us know what you think of our list, who you would have as number one, and who we’ve left out!
#1 – Michael Jordan
He is undoubtedly the greatest basketballer that has ever lived – and perhaps even the greatest sportsman. We couldn’t have a list without him, and this slam dunk solidifies him as one of the best dunkers of his generation.

2 – Shaquille O’Neal
One of the most famous names in basketball, Shaq has collated an incredible wealth of achievements over his 18-year career. The man is tall enough to crush a small child without even noticing, but can still put on a show when it comes to slam dunks.
#3 – Adam Waddell
You may never have heard his name before, but this piece of ridiculous play from Adam Waddell earns him the number three spot on our list. There’s nothing more to say except watch the clip and enjoy.
#4 – Vince Carter
The Dream Team has produced some pretty phenomenal performances in recent years, but this Vince Carter move – where he jumps over 7’2” Frederic Wies – has to take the cake for one of the best international slam dunks of all time.
#5 – Allen Iverson
Allen “The Answer” Iverson has had a stellar 15-year career in the NBA: Rookie of the Year, Most Valuable Player, 11 times NBA All-Star, and success across five different clubs. But perhaps his greatest contribution to the sport was his ability to take advantage in the most unlikely of situations. Case in point (and remember, he’s a point guard).
#6 – Tom Chambers
Best known for his time with the Seattle SuperSonics and Phoenix Suns, Tom Chambers was a four times NBA All-Star and master of the net. In this clip, not even the legendary Magic Johnson could stop Chambers from powering through the Lakers defence to pull off a reverse slam dunk.
#7 – Larry Bird
One of the greatest players to ever compete in the NBA, and having one of the biggest collections of career achievements to boot, Larry Bird contributed to the Boston Celtics’ three championship titles during the 1980s. He amassed well over 20,000 points in his career, though very rarely managed to pull of a slam dunk. This is one of those rarities.
#8 – Charles Barkley
The former 76ers, Suns, and Rockets forward is one of the most well known names in the NBA for Generation X-ers. His aggressive nature on the court only made him more popular with the fans – although it’s hard to argue that his talent on the ball didn’t have anything to do with it. Watch him storm through the Chicago Bulls defence and still control the ball enough to dunk it in this clip.
9 – LeBron James
At only 25 years old, LeBron James has already etched his name into NBA history. With such a diverse range of skills, it’s no surprise to see the small forward continually producing incredible displays on and off the ball. This is just one magical piece of LeBron’s library. Take that, James Johnson!
#10 – Kobe Bryant
The legend may be aging, but you can’t deny Kobe’s skills on the court. The Lakers veteran has pulled off some magnificent dunks in his career in Los Angeles, but few compare to this magical moment between himself and LeBron James during a Dream Team match.
