Los Angeles Clippers Betting History

Historically, betting on the Clippers was not a good idea. Before 2013 they had not even won a divisional title in their 40+ year history. But in the last two years they have been a strong team, winning consecutive divisional titles as well as finishing the season with high winning records.

As well as a winning record, the Clippers were a strong betting proposition in 2013/2014. They beat the spread in over 53% of the games and were a profitable over option in Over/Under betting, beating the market 53.7% of the time.

Los Angeles Clippers History

The Clippers franchise entered the NBA as the Buffalo Braves in 1970. The franchise moved to San Diego and became known as the Clippers in 1978 before moving to Los Angeles. The Clippers have not experienced much success in their history and are the only NBA team based in California that has never won a NBA Championship. The LA Clippers have qualified for the playoffs on only ten occasions with their most successful period coming during the 1970s. The Clippers have had a number of high profile draft busts in their history and have struggled to find a star player to lead the franchise. The franchise has improved significantly in recent seasons and with the acquisition of Blake Griffin and Chris Paul has put together the strongest Clippers roster in history.

Los Angeles Clippers Star Player: Chris Paul

Chris Paul was selected with the fourth pick of the 2005 NBA draft by the New Orleans Hornets. Paul spent six seasons at the Hornets before joining the LA Clippers in 2011. Paul is one of the best point guards in the NBA and has put together an excellent resume during his NBA career. He won the NBA Rookie of the Year award in 2006 and has been selected as an NBA All-Star on seven consecutive occasions. Paul is well known as being an unselfish player and has been the NBA assists champion three times. He is also extremely strong defensively and has been the NBA steals champion in six of the past seven seasons. In combination with Blake Griffin, Paul led the Clippers to the playoffs for the first time in six years in 2012 and the pair did the same the following two years, as well as taking out a divisional title.

Los Angeles Clippers Star From the Past: Randy Smith

Randy Smith was selected with the 104th pick of the 1971 draft by the Buffalo Braves (now known as the Los Angeles Clippers). Smith is considered one of the best draft pickups in NBA history and is one of only a few players to be drafted in the seventh round to go on and play in the NBA All-Star game. Smith became well known for his endurance and ability to avoid injury, breaking the NBA record for consecutive games played. He retired in 1983 and died from a heart attack in 2009. Smith remains the leading points scorer in Clippers franchise history.

Los Angeles Clippers Head Coach: Doc Rivers

Doc Rivers had extensive history as an NBA head coach before joining the Clippers in 2013. He coached the Orlando Magic from 1999-2003 and the Boston Celtics from 2004-2013. Rivers won the Coach of the Year award in 2000 after his first year with the Magic. That season, he led the team that was picked to finish last in the league to a near playoff berth. In June 2013, the Los Angeles Clippers acquired Rivers from the Celtics for an unprotected 2015 NBA first round draft pick. He also became the Senior Vice President for Basketball Operations on the team. In his first season as their head coach, Rivers led the Clippers to a franchise-record 57 wins, garnering the 3rd seed in the Western conference.
