2014/2015 Atlanta Hawks Schedule

The Atlanta Hawks 2014/15 schedule contains 21 back-to-back sets for the team. They will also face their biggest rivals - the Charlotte Hornets - four times throughout the season. They must face 2013/14 champions San Antonio on just their third game, so they will have to begin at their best. The Hawks are one of the most popular Southern teams due to their success, especially when it comes to making the playoffs.

Atlanta Hawks History

The Atlanta Hawks entered the NBA as the Buffalo Bisons in 1946 and have been a fairly nomadic franchise. They represented the Tri-Cities areas from 1946-1951 before moving to Milwaukee in 1951, St Louis in 1955 and finally settling in Atlanta in 1968. The Hawks have achieved little success since moving to Atlanta and currently have the second longest run without winning an NBA title. The franchise has been regular qualifiers for the playoffs in recent years but hasn't been able to make a significant run since moving to Atlanta. Atlanta is a very crowded sporting market and at times the Hawks have had trouble selling tickets for their games although crowds have improved thanks to their playoff qualification.

Atlanta Hawks Star Player: Jeff Teague

Jeff Teague was selected 19th overall in the 2009 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks. Before that he played college basketball for Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Teague is known for his shooting ability and ability to drive to the basket. His career awards and highlights include making the All-ACC Freshman team in 2008 and the Second team All-ACC in 2009. On March 18, 2014, Teague tied his career high of 34 points in a 118-113 overtime win over the Toronto Raptors. He and newly added Paul Millsap from the Utah Jazz led Atlanta to a playoff appearance in 2014 getting the 8th seed, but the team was eliminated by the Indiana Pacers in 7 games.

Atlanta Hawks Star From the Past: Dominique Wilkins

Dominique Wilkins was selected with the 3rd pick of the 1982 NBA draft by the Utah Jazz before being traded to the Atlanta Hawks a few years later. Wilkins was never able to capture an elusive NBA Championship but he was a nine time all-star and finished the 1986 season as the NBA scoring champion. Wilkins was known as one the best dunkers in the history of the NBA with his feats of athleticism making him a popular figure with Atlanta Hawks tickets holders. Wilkins finished his career with stints in Los Angles and Boston but returned to the Hawks in retirement and is now Vice President of Basketball.

Atlanta Hawks Head Coach: Mike Budenholzer

Mike Budenholzer became the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons in 2013 after a long stint as an assistant with the San Antonio Spurs. The former professional basketball player spent 18 seasons with the Spurs, serving as a video coordinator for the first two season and then as an assistant coach under head coach Gregg Popovich. In his first season at Atlanta Budenholzer finished the season with a .463 win-loss % and 4th in the Southeast Division. Hopefully he will find his feet in 2014-15 and produce a better season.
