The Athletic reports that the deal will go through once Lokomotiv release him from his current contract. Manchester United do not anticipate this to be a problem, according to the mentioned source.

Rangnick’s interim role will last until the end of May, when he’ll become a club consultant on a contract until 2024.

Manchester United have sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday following the 4-1 defeat to Watford in the Premier League. Michael Carrick took charge for the 2-0 Villarreal win in the Champions League and will also be in the United dugout for Chelsea at the weekend.

Rangnick, ‘The Hard Working One’

Man. United tried tempting Zinedine Zidane to a permanent contract at Old Trafford, but the Frenchman didn’t show interest in the job. According to sources, United also spoke to Ernesto Valverde and Rudi Garcia for interim roles before deciding to appoint Rangnick.

The German previously managed Stuttgart, Hannover, Schalke, Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig, after becoming known in his country for taking outsiders Ulm to the Bundesliga in 1999. Over the previous 10 years, Rangnick also enjoyed success as a director, holding key roles at Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig, with the latter rising from the regional league level to the Bundesliga in the process. Rangnick also managed Leipzig in the 2015/16 and 2018/19 seasons.

During his managerial career, Rangnick did not win any major trophies, finishing second in the Bundesliga with Schalke in 2005 and playing a Cup final with Leipzig in 2019.

He had only taken his current job at Lokomotiv back in July.
