Week 14 NFL Value Plays in DFS: Hurts So Good

Week 14 provides a big, 13-game slate with some juicy, high-priced options like Devante Adams and Derrick Henry. But there are also some tantalizing players to be found deeper in the salary pool.

Rookie Jalen Hurts will start at quarterback for the Eagles this week. His running ability could yield high DFS scores. (Image: CBS Sports)

Here are five value players (OK, four this week) under $5,000 on DraftKings.

Jalen Hurts, Eagles QB ($5,100)

I’m pulling one of my minor cheats by selecting someone slightly over $5,000, and it’s not just because I’m a University of Alabama grad. I wouldn’t expect Hurts to put up massive numbers on the Saints defense in Week 14 in his first start, but his rushing upside is massive in this game. He could easily run for 100 yards and a touchdown, and pay off his salary without a passing attempt (but he’ll throw the ball, too.)

JD McKissic, Washington RB ($4,900)

Antonio Gibson left last week’s game against Pittsburgh after just four plays, and is expected to miss Week 14 with an injured toe. McKissic handled the bulk of the backfield work last week, and should do so again against the 49ers. While he only carried the ball five times last week, he served as the pass-catching option for quarterback Alex Smith, snagging an incredible 10 receptions. Because the 49ers D is good against the run, expect McKissic to see plenty of targets again in Week 14.

Tyler Boyd, Bengals WR ($4,900)

Boyd avoided suspension for his fight with Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard last week, which resulted in the ejection of both players. Before his departure, Boyd caught a 72-yard TD pass from QB Brandon Allen, his only reception of the day. Allen has looked shaky in relief of Joe Burrow, but the Dallas defense, one of the worst in the NFL, could be the cure for what ails him.

Collin Johnson, Jaguars WR ($3,600)

While the Jags like to spread the ball around, Johnson is priced too cheaply in Week 14. He’s been a consistent presence over the past two weeks, with eight receptions for 162 yards and a touchdown. He’s averaging about 16 DFS points per game on DraftKings. I’ll happily take that at this price against Tennessee this week.

Hunter Henry, Chargers TE ($4,400)

Henry was a dud last week, catching just one of two targets for five yards. Hopefully, that will allow us to get him at lower ownership for the Chargers’ Week 14 game against the Falcons who are among the bottom tier of NFL teams in defending the tight end in DFS. Henry has been one of the most consistent tight end options in the league this year.
