NFC West Race: Seattle Seahawks Raging Solo

After six weeks of the NFL season, the first-place Seattle Seahawks (5-0) are one of the few undefeated teams remaining, and are currently -225 odds favorites to capture the NFC West crown.

According to a recent update by the Westgate SuperBook, the Seahawks saw their NFC West odds jump from +350 at the start of the season to -225 odds now.

The Seahawks are also +750 odds to win the 2021 Super Bowl, according to DraftKings.

The San Francisco 49ers were the Super Bowl runner-up last season. The Niners came into this season as the favorite to win the NFC West at -175 odds.

2020 NFC WEST ODDS (Thru 10/21/20)

The LA Rams looked like the only competition for Seattle before a loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 6. The Rams slipped from +225 to +450 odds to win the NFC West.

The Arizona Cardinals (4-2) slipped to as low as 14/1 odds to win the NFC West before their numbers rebounded to +600 to secure a divisional crown.

Seattle West Lock?

Seattle has a porous defense, but Russell Wilson leads the top-ranked offense in the NFL. The Seahawks average a league-leading 33.8 points per game during one of the highest-scoring seasons in NFL history.

The hot-handed Wilson finds himself ranked #1 overall with 19 touchdown passes. Wilson’s tossed for 1,502 yards (ranked #4 with 280.4 yards per game) and completed an impressive 72.8% of his passes. If Wilson continues his torrid pace, he’ll win his first MVP award.

SEATTLE SCHEDULE

The Seahawks don’t have any fans at home games, which is a shame, because the so-called “12th Man” is no longer a factor. The Seahawks have the loudest home field in the NFL, which is the primary reason why they’re one of the most difficult places for their competition to play a road game. During the pandemic season, the 12th Man has been neutralized.

Despite losing a huge home-field edge, the Seahawks will host only five more home games. They play three tough divisional foes, but will also host the winless NY Jets and the 1-5 NY Giants.

The Seahawks have six more road games with three non-divisional stops on the East Coast, including games at Buffalo, at Philadelphia, and at Washington.

With three games against the lackluster NFC East and a home game against the pathetic LOL Jets, the Seahawks have an easier remaining schedule than do their NFC West counterparts. That’s the sole reason why oddsmakers listed the Seahawks at 1/2 odds to win another NFC West division title.

LA Rams Value Play?

The 4-2 Rams look like a Sean McVay team once again with the fourth-best offense in the NFL good for 403.6 yards per game. After securing a berth in Super Bowl 53, the Rams went 8-8 in 2019 and bubbled the postseason. They’re on pace to at least secure a wild-card berth in 2020.

The Rams defense is ranked #5 in the NFL, allowing only 19.0 points per game. In terms of DVOA, the Rams are ranked #9 overall in team defense.

The Rams have yet to lose a game at their new stadium. They’re 2-0 at SoFi Field, with both of their losses coming on the road in Buffalo and San Francisco.

Sean McVay’s squad has three tough divisional home games against Seattle, San Francisco, and Arizona. The Rams also host two tough non-divisional teams, including the Chicago Bears who visit SoCal in Week 7. The LOL Jets have a trip scheduled to Hollywood just before Christmas in Week 15.

LA RAMS SCHEDULE

The Rams face the Seahawks in Seattle in Week 16 in a game that could determine the NFC West champion. They also have two trips to Florida in November, with games against the Miami Dolphins in Week 8, and a date with Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Bucs in Week 11.

The Rams were +600 odds to win the NFC West at the start of the season. Whereas the Cards and Niners saw their odds plummet, the Rams saw a bump. The Rams are now +2200 odds to win the Super Bowl, via a recent update from DraftKings.
