Seattle Seahawks Star Players for 2014

Quarterback: Russell Wilson

Russell Wilson was picked 75th overall by the Seahawks in the 2012 draft, following a successful college career at the University of Wisconsin. In his senior year, Wilson set the single season FBS record for passing efficiency and lead the badgers to a Big Ten title and an appearance in the 2011 Rose Bowl. On August 26th 2012 Wilson was named the Seattle starting Quarterback and led the Seahawks to an 11-5 season, resulting in a birth in the playoffs. Wilson was voted the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year for his efforts in 2012 and carried this momentum all the way to the Super Bowl Championship in 2013. Wilson finished the season with 26 touchdown passes, 9 interceptions, and a 101.2 passer rating, becoming the first quarterback in the Super Bowl era to post a 100+ passer rating in each of his first 2 seasons. Everyone will be watching to see what this champion QB will do next.

Offensive Star: Marshawn Lynch

Marshawn Lynch was selected by the Buffalo Bills with the 12th pick in the 2007 NFL draft. Lynch had an impressive rookie season for the Bills, rushing for 1115 yards and scoring seven touchdowns. Lynch followed that up with another good season in 2008, in which he was selected for the Pro Bowl for the first time. In 2010 he was traded to the Seattle Seahawks for draft picks. 2012 was the best season of Lynch's career as he returned to the Pro Bowl; rushed for 1590 yards; scored eleven touchdowns, averaging an incredible 99.4 yards per game. Lynch was a huge factor for the Seahawks in 2013. He rushed for 1257 yards and 12 tds, and recorded three 100 yard games. He was voted to the Pro Bowl for the third straight year, but had to decline the appearance due to his participation in Super Bowl XLVIII. He would end up rushing for 39 yards during that game, including a touchdown score, resulting in the team's first Super Bowl victory as well as Lynch's first Super Bowl ring.

Defensive Star: Earl Thomas

Earl Thomas was the 14th pick of the 2010 NFL draft. Despite being one of the youngest players in the NFL Thomas excelled in his rookie season and finished with 76 tackles, one forced fumble and five interceptions. Thomas was even better in 2011 and 2012, developing into the best player on the Seahawks defense. He was selected as the starting safety for the NFC Pro Bowl team and was ranked at number 66 in the 2012 NFL top 100. Thanks largely to Thomas, the Seahawks defense was the 7th best in the NFL in 2012. Thomas helped his team reach the Super Bowl in 2013, and was picked for his third consecutive Pro Bowl and All-Pro teams.

Head Coach: Pete Carroll

Pete Carroll began his NFL coaching career as defensive backs coach for the Buffalo Bills. He was named defensive coordinator for the New York Jets in 1990 and was promoted to head coach in 1994. However, the Jets struggled in Carroll's one year in charge and he was fired. His next head coaching role was at the New England Patriots. He led the Patriots to the AFC East Division title in 1997 and qualified the side for the playoffs in 1998 but was fired after missing the playoffs the following season. Carroll returned to the NFL in 2010 after a successful ten year period coaching the University of Southern California (USC). Carroll led the Seahawks to the NFC West division title in 2010; despite finishing the season with a 7-9 record. Carroll's fourth season, 2013, was his greatest level of success in the professional league. His Seahawks finished the regular season with a sterling 13-3 record, placing them on top of the NFC conference for their first time since 2005, as well as winning the Super Bowl XLVIII.
