Roulette is a classic casino game which can be found in literally every land- or internet-based casino in the world. Invented in France in the 18th century, Roulette (the name meaning 'little wheel' in French) is one of the oldest casino games around.

However, it has never lost its appeal and still attracts vast numbers of players every single day. Over the past centuries that game of roulette has been through some small changes, but the Roulette we play today is still very similar to the original game.

Interestingly, there is clear distinction between European Roulette and American Roulette, although the ground rules still remain the same. For more information of the history of Roulette, you can visit out Roulette History page.

Perhaps Roulette has remained so close to its prototype over all these years because the original game was very close to ideal. The rules of Roulette are not particularly difficult, yet the game is one of the most thrilling casino games around. A roulette game consists of two main elements, the roulette table and the roulette wheel.

The Roulette Wheel

The roulette wheel features 37 (European) or 38 (American) black or red pockets, each assigned a number between 0 and 36; the American Roulette wheels have an additional 00 pocket. The roulette table has designated fields for every number on the wheel and bets are placed by setting casino chips on the number you believe will come up. The layout of roulette tables can vary depending on the style of roulette; to learn more, check out our Table Layout page.

Rules of Roulette

The rules of Roulette are simple. When all the players have placed their bets, the wheel is set in motion by the croupier (the roulette dealer) and a small white ball is spun in the reverse direction along the rim of the roulette wheel. As the wheel slows down, the ball will land in one of the pockets, the player who has set on the correct number wins. However, there are several types of Roulette Bets. A player may bet simply on the colour of the pocket with a 50/50 chance of doubling his funds; place a wager on numbers 1-12, 13-24 or 25-36; or bet on odds versus even numbers. Roulette Today

Today Roulette seems to be more popular than ever, especially in online casinos. The benefit of Roulette is that it translates exceptionally well into an internet casino game. The layout of the roulette table is easy to recreate in a virtual game room; the betting can easily be done with one click of the mouse and the spinning of the wheel requires nothing more than the press of a button. The experience of playing online roulette recreates the exact experience you would have at a land-based casino, which is rare in the world of online gambling.
