NFL DFS: Is Justin Fields Worth the Risk in Week 8?

Injuries will play a large role in the selections for DFS value plays on DraftKings this week. Some low-priced players should play a large role in their team’s offenses due to injured starters. In other cases, studs will return from injury and we can get them at a buy-low opportunity in Week 8.

Here are five players under $5,000 on DK to potentially roster this week.

Justin Fields, Bears QB ($5,000)

This is the definition of a high-risk play. Fields hasn’t looked good in his first handful of starts as a rookie and threw three interceptions against the Buccaneers last week. But Week 8 could be his get-well game playing at home against a 49ers defense that ranks 31st in the league against opposing quarterbacks in DFS. Fields’ rushing upside makes him an intriguing option at this low price.

Michael Carter, Jets RB ($4,900)

This play worked last week, with Carter scoring 17.4 points on DraftKings, so let’s go back to the well. With Zach Wilson’s injured knee, Mike White has ascended to the starting position for the Jets, frequently using Carter as a check-down option against the Patriots last week. He caught eight of nine targets, racking up points with those receptions. It’s not unrealistic to expect more of the same in Week 8 against the Bengals.

Cole Beasley, Bills WR ($4,900)

Beasley’s fantasy scores have bounced up and down like a pogo stick this season, with a high of 21.8 on DK last week against Tennessee, to a low of 1.5 the previous week against the Chiefs. Several Bills receivers could feast against the poor Miami secondary in Week 8, especially with QB Josh Allen playing at a high level.

Jerry Jeudy, Broncos WR ($4,900)

The Denver receiver has been on injured reserve for six weeks with a high ankle sprain, but team officials say he should return this week against Washington. His status bears monitoring heading into Sunday, but if he starts, then Jeudy should return to his WR1 role. In his only game of the season, he caught six of seven targets for 72 yards.

Tommy Sweeney, Bills TE ($2,900)

Regular starter Dawson Knox suffered a fractured hand last week and had surgery to repair it. Sweeney will take over the starting tight end role for Buffalo this week. As he’s the only healthy tight end on the roster, Sweeney should be on the field for the vast majority of snaps in Week 8.
