Matt Prater from the Arizona Cardinals attempted the longest field goal in NFL history when his 68-yard attempt fell short, but Jamal Agnew from the Jacksonville Jaguars snatched the ball at the back of the end zone and he scurried 109 yards to score a touchdown.

Agnew, a kick-return specialist, tied a record for the longest touchdown in NFL history with his 109-yard score. In an odd twist of fate, Prater attempted to set an NFL record and failed, which put Agnew in a position to tie an NFL record.

Last week against the Denver Broncos, Agnew scored a 102-yard touchdown return in the fourth quarter.

The Jaguars and Cardinals were tied 7-7 in the closing minute of the first half. With the ball at midfield, Arizona head coach Kliff Kingsbury gambled on a long field goal. Prater currently holds the NFL record for the longest field goal at 64 yards and attempted to crush his own record with a 68-yard attempt. Kingsbury was cruelly reminded why teams don’t risk long-shot field goals, especially anything over 65 yards.

In 15 seasons as a pro kicker, Prater knocked down 83.1% of his field-goal attempts with the Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions, and Cardinals. Over his career, Prater connected on 60-of-80 FG attempts from 50-plus yards with a 75% success rate. Prater was 3-for-4 this season in FG attempts after the first two games.

The winless Jaguars (0-2) were a +7.5 home dog in Week 3 against the Cardinals, and they headed into halftime leading 13-7.
