The MLB season is 25 percent complete and the first place Chicago Cubs (25-16) and Javier “EL Mago” Baez moved toward the top of the list of World Series favorites at 6/1 odds.
Led by Javier Baez’s 11 home runs, the Chicago Cubs are now 6/1 odds to win the World Series according to the South Point Casino and Sports Book in Las Vegas. The Houston Astros (29-15) and the LA Dodgers (29-16) are both 5/1 odds as the co-favorites to win the 2019 World Series.
The Houston Astros, the 2017 World Series Champions, are the best team in the American League. The Astros are vying with the LA Dodgers to become the first team in baseball with 30 wins.
WORLD SERIES ODDS (THRU 44 GAMES):
Houston Astros 5/1
LA Dodgers 5/1
Chicago Cubs 6/1
NY Yankees 13/2
Boston Red Sox 15/2
Minnesota Twins 9/1
Milwaukee Brewers 13/1
Philadelphia Phillies 13/1
St. Louis Cardinals 15/1
Tampa Rays 16/1
The Dodgers are the top team in the National League. With two World Series appearances and two runner-up finishes in the last two seasons, the Dodgers are on a mission to win the championship this year. Cody Bellinger tweaked his swing and got his groove back. He’s leading the NL in hitting and RBI, and only Christian Yelich stands in his way of a Triple Crown.
Cubbies Holding Off Brewers
After a 2-7 start, the Cubbies went 23-9. They lead Central Division with a 25-16 record and a better win percentage than the Milwaukee Brewers (27-16).
Javier Baez leads the team in hitting with a .326 average plus 11 home runs. Anthony Rizzo and Wilson Contreras are also in the double-digit homers club with 10 each.
Three starting pitchers posted five wins for the Cubs: Cole Hamels (5-3, 3.08 ERA, 1.07 WHIP), Jon Lester (5-3, 2.86 ERA, 1.15 WHIP) and Jose Quintana (5-4, 3.68 ERA, 1.27 WHIP).
The NL Central is one of the toughest division in baseball. Four of the five teams are above .500. Event the last-place Reds (20-24) are no slouch.
The Brewers got off to a shaky start, but have corrected their ship. Even while nursing a sore back, Christian Yelich leads the majors with 18 home runs. The Brew crew is now 13/1 odds to win the series.
The third-place Cardinals are only 3.5 games behind the Cubs. The Cards are 15/1 odds to win.
AL East Tri-Hunt
The Tampa Rays are currently in first place in the AL East, but they are only 16/1 odds to win the title. Bookmakers have no faith in the Rays and the betting market is pouring in money on the popular Yankees and Red Sox.
The Rays (26-15) are only a half game ahead of the Replacement Yankees (26-16), who now have 17 players on the injured list. At least Yankees catcher Gary “Kraken” Sanchez, who spend 10 days on the IL earlier this season, continues to inflict damage on opposing pitching.
The Red Sox (23-20) got off to a slow start while suffering from a World Series hangover. The Sox banned Fortnite in the locker room and went on a winning streak.
Even with all of their injuries, the Yankees are 13/2 odds to win the World Series. The Red Sox are 15/2 odds to repeat as world champs. However, history is against the Sox. Due to the grind of the baseball season, it’s extremely difficult to win the title two years in a row. No team has won the World Series in consecutive years since the Yankees completed a three-peat between 1998-2000 while anchored by unanimous Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera.
