Wentz, 26, had two years remaining on his rookie contract before he sat down to negotiate an extension.

The new deal also includes nearly $108 million in guaranteed money with $66 million coming up front.

The four-year extension means Wentz will earn $154 million over six years. He will be earning $25.67 million a season through 2024.

“I can’t even explain to you how excited I am right now to be a part of this great city for this many more years,” Wentz said via Twitter. “From the moment I got drafted here, I knew this place was special.”

Wentz’s new contract is on par to Russell Wilson’s extension with the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks wanted to lock up their QB by giving him a four-year deal worth $140 million, including $107 million in guaranteed money.

In only 11 games of action last season with the Eagles, Wentz threw 21 touchdowns with a 69.6 percent completion rate.

Wentz Returns, No Foles

The Eagles drafted Wentz with the second overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Many pundits were concerned about the kid from North Dakota State. From day one, Wentz proved his critics wrong. He played all 16 games as a rookie with 16 touchdowns and a 62.4 completion percentage.

The injury bug caught up to Wentz in 2017 when he missed three games after blowing out his knee. He had thrown 33 touchdowns through 13 games before Nick Foles took over.

Last season, Wentz missed the first two games of the season while rehabbing from his knee injury. Wentz then missed the final three games of the regular season after fracturing his back. The incident occurred during Week 14 in a NFC East division game against the Dallas Cowboys.

CARSON WENTZ STATS
2016: 16 TD, 14 INT, 16 Games
2017: 33 TD, 7 INT, 13 Games
2018: 21 TD, 7 INT, 11 Games

Backup Nick Foles stepped in once again. The Eagles almost ran the table a second time in the playoffs with Foles, but his magic fizzled out 20-14 in the NFC Divisional Round against Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints.

The Eagles won Super Bowl LII without Wentz. Nick Foles stepped up to lead the Eagles to the championship over Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.

Foles signed a lucrative deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars in the offseason. The Jags hope Foles can replicate his Eagles magic in Jacksonville after a couple of rough seasons with Blake Bortles at the helm. Foles signed a four-year deal worth $88 million.
