This week, the PGA Tour heads to the Twin Cities in Minnesota for the 3M Open. TPC Twin Cities will play at par 71 and 7,468 yards in length. Matthew Wolff won last year by shooting 21 under.
Last week’s Memorial Tournament saw all but two of the world’s top-50 players in the field. This week, we have nearly the opposite situation, with only a handful of golf’s best in the 3M Open. That will provide an opportunity for lesser players to shine on the course and in DFS rosters. After touting the winners in my DFS picks the past three weeks (Bryson DeChambeau, Colin Morikawa, and Jon Rahm), let’s see if I can make it four in a row. Here are some players to consider for your DFS rosters at the 3M Open.
Dustin Johnson ($11,500 on DraftKings, $12,400 on FanDuel)
Here’s hoping that many DFS players will focus on Johnson’s past tournaments and less on his otherwise stellar season. DJ shot a pair of 80s at The Memorial to finish second-to-last. But he made the cut in seven of eight other tournaments this season, including four top 10s and a victory at the Travelers Championship. His status as the highest-priced golfer on the slate should also help keep his ownership down, but he’s a strong bet to taste victory at the 3M Open this week.
Doc Redman ($8,700 on DK, $9,900 on FD)
Count Redman among those who got crossed up by the Open-esque conditions at The Memorial. He shot 76-76 to miss his first cut in his past seven events. That broke a streak of 11 consecutive rounds shooting under par. One concern I have with Redman at this salary is his lack of top 10s – he doesn’t have a single one. But he has certainly been on the cusp, with a tie for 11th at the Travelers Championship and two other near top-20 finishes since the tour resumed play. Going up against this weak field, he may finally notch a single-digit placement at the 3M Open.
Luke List ($8,400 on DK, $10,300 on FD)
Which List will show up this week? The one who fired one of the lowest rounds at The Memorial on Sunday to finish 10th? Or the one who has missed three of five cuts since the tour returned to action in June? Considering his solid play last week, List might be worth a gamble at the 3M Open. He ranked second in shots gained off the tee, and tied for third in greens in regulation. If he can keep that up and hit some putts this week, he could compete for the win.
Patrick Rodgers ($8,200 on DK, $9,800 on FD)
The 3M Open will be Rodgers’ 24th time to tee it up on tour this season. The prolific golfer has also been a relatively successful one, with 16 cuts made, including an 18th-place finish last week against a stacked field. This week, the field will be relatively easier. Add the fact that TPC Twin Cities offers bentgrass greens, on which Rodgers has experienced great success putting against the field with 0.56 strokes gained, and he’s worth consideration.
Charley Hoffman ($7,400 on DK, $9,300 on FD)
Not too many players in this range feature win equity, but count Hoffman as a guy with a chance. In his last outing, at the Workday Charity Open, he notched a seventh after three consecutive rounds in the 60s. Take away his opening 74 and he would have had a shot at the victory.
