Yankees Win the World Series

The New York Yankees finished off the Philadelphia Phillies last night in Game 6 to claim their 27th World Series title.
The Yankees were on fire right from the start of the game particularly Hideki Matsui who was giving the Philadelphia pitchers more than they could handle. He started things off with an impressive two-run homer in the second inning. He followed it up with a two-run single in the third, and a two-run double in the fifth. Overall, Matsui had an impressive 6 RBIs that certainly helped the Yankees grab their record setting title. It should come as no surprise that his performance also earned him the Series MVP trophy.
Though the bats were hot, it has to be the pitching that ultimately got the Yankees their first title since 2000. Andy Pettitte had an impressive night, pitching 5 2-3 innings on three days’ rest. He allowed only three runs, four hits, and five walks. Chamberlain and Damaso Marte provided relief as they both combined for 1-2-3 innings, and Rivera wrapped things up with the final outs to claim the 7-3 win.
It would seem that the $200 million spent acquiring their top players and the funds used to build their new stadium was money well spent as the team showed why they have baseball’s biggest payroll.
And so another baseball season comes to an end but that doesn’t mean that the betting season is over. The NBA is just getting started while the NFL is getting down to the nitty-gritty as they head into Week 9. Let’s not forget about the NHL, which has just finished up the first month of the regular season with a few teams emerging as genuine playoff contenders.
