Lyoto Machida will finally defend his light heavyweight championship title against Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua at UFC 104 on 24 October. BetUS has the odds.
Fans have been waiting to see Machida defend his title ever since he won it from Rashad Evans at UFC 98 in May. He is undefeated in all 15 of his fights, with wins over many well-known opponents such as Rich Franklin, BJ Penn, and Tito Ortiz. He’ll put that reputation on the line come Saturday, as he faces Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua, one of the most dangerous fighters to come to the UFC from Pride.
The title bout is -450 Machida and +325 Rua at BetUS, which is completely unsurprising given the boost Machida received to his reputation after winning the championship. Few do not believe that Machida is the clear favorite coming into this fight, but there are good reasons to think that Shogun can pull off the upset if he brings the right gameplan. Shogun should be no pushover, with wins over Quinton Jackson, Alistair Overeem, and Chuck Liddell.
In addition to the light heavyweight championship bout, several other big name fights will be on this card. The former IFL fighter Ben Rothwell will make his debut in the UFC by taking on the undefeated Cain Velasquez in a bout that could decide the next fighter to take on the champion after Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin is settled at UFC 106. People expect great things from Velasquez, hopes that were reinforced by his win over Cheick Kongo, and BetUS has the fight -300 Velasquez and +220 Rothwell. An upset isn’t out of the question, though, as Rothwell has much more experience, with a 30-6 record to Velasquez’s 6-0.
Joe Stevenson’s climb back into the good graces of fans and the UFC will continue on Saturday in a fight against Spencer Fisher. BetUS has the fight at -220 Stevenson and +175 Fisher. It’s a very good match-up, with both fighters seasoned veterans in the Octagon, but Stevenson definitely deserves the confidence of the sportsbooks. Showing off his ability to control a fight with superior wrestling in his last bout against Nate Diaz, Stevenson looks focused on making his way toward another lightweight title shot in the future. Fisher will be no walk in the park, however, as he has wins against Thiago Alves, Josh Neer and a recent win over Caol Uno.
The full odds at BetUS for fights at UFC 104 are:
Lyoto Machida -450 vs. Mauricio Rua +325
Cain Velasquez -300 vs. Ben Rothwell +220
Antoni Hardonk -125 vs. Pat Barry -105
