Super Bowl XLIV Preview

The 2009-10 NFL season has finally reached its peak with the Saints and the Colts taking to the field on February 7 to battle it out for the championship title. BetUS is offering odds.
This season’s two no. 1 ranked teams are facing off in the Super Bowl and, though this should prove to be a great game, all eyes will be on two of the top quarterbacks in the league.
There is no doubt that Drew Brees has had an excellent season, generating plenty of murmurs of an MVP trophy. During this postseason alone, he’s thrown 40 of 63 for 444 yards and led his team to the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history. No small task. Peyton Manning, on the other hand, has thrown 56 of 83 for 623 yards in the post season. That includes five touchdowns and just one interception. He’s consistently led his team to the playoffs since 2002, and has one Super Bowl win under his belt.
There is no doubt that these two will be forces to be reckoned with on game day, but Manning has the edge in this contest. Having experience dealing with the pressures that come with a Super Bowl appearance is a big plus. It may take Brees, and plenty of his teammates (Reggie Bush, Marques Colston, and Jonathan Vilma), some time to settle in, which could affect the Saints’ offense in a big way.
There's no doubt that we're dealing with two big offensive lines, but they may just cancel each other out because they are pretty evenly matched. Therefore, this game is going to be won by the defense. Again, Indianapolis has the edge. Well, they had the edge. The big news surrounding the Colts as they head to Miami is the questionable status of star defensive end Dwight Freeney. He suffered an ankle injury during the Conference Championship game against New York. Though he has admitted the pain is subsiding, he’s still unsure if he will be able to play.
If Freeney is out, it will be a huge blow to the Colts’ defense as Freeney is their top defensive end with 24 tackles and 14 sacks. Even if he plays, he’s not likely to play the entire game and almost certainly won’t be at 100%. It’s going to be a tough position to fill for the Colts even with Robert Mathis, Raheem Brock and Keyunta Dawson. The Indianapolis defense will really have to pull together.
The Saints defense, while they’re not missing any key players, isn’t quite as potent as Indianapolis. They’ve had some trouble throughout the season, particularly when it comes to stopping the run. That being said, they did hand Brett Favre quite a beating despite not being able to sack him in their Conference Championship game. They’ll need even more effort from top defensive ends Will Smith (49 tackles, 13 sacks) and Bobby McCray (12 tackles, 1.5 sacks). If they can put the same kind of pressure on the Indianapolis offense and rattle Manning, they should be able to stay in this game.
No matter who wins, expect a high scoring game as these two top offensive lines battle it out for the honor of hoisting the Lombardi Trophy. As always, BetUS has you covered on all Super Bowl odds. Early trends are showing most money going toward the Colts, making them the favorites. The Colts have been great against the spread this season while the Saints haven't done that well. Though don't discount the value behind betting on the Saints. Their underdog status may inspire something come game time. Plus they're sporting the highest scoring offense and defense in the league.
