Prizefighter Light Welterweights

Shad
November 26, 2009

On 4 December, the Prizefighter tournament will be held again, this time pitting some of Britain’s best light welterweights against one another. BetUS has odds.

Gavin Rees

The Prizefighter series was first run as a heavyweight tourney in April 2008, and the format proved to be popular. Eight contestants face one another in an elimination tournament. They fight for three rounds of three minutes, up to 4 times in the one night. And the winner of the tournament takes £25,000.Such short contests allow the fighters to give it their all in the ring.

This time the light welterweights will face off, and the list of boxers taking on this challenge is quite impressive. Fighting on 4 December will be Gavin Rees, Colin Lynes, David Barnes, Michael Grant, Ted Bami, Barris Jones, Jason Cook, and Lee “Young Mutley” Woodley. This list includes former British and World champions, as well as Olympic level athletes.

Favorite at BetUS is Gavin Rees at +200 odds. Rees is the former WBA world super-lightweight champion, losing his title last year to Andreas Kotelnick via KO, his first professional loss. He stayed away from the ring for a while, but a return in August of this year means he should be primed to take the tourney as long as the move up in weight does not affect him too much.

Close to Rees in the odds at BetUS is Colin Lynes at +250 to win. A former light welterweight IBO World, British and European champion, Lynes has already beaten some of the other combatants in this tourney, and has also lost to some. Interestingly, he dropped his British title to David Barnes last year, but Barnes pulled out of a mandatory defence against Lynes and was stripped of the belt. Many fans will be hoping for a brief rematch between these two during the Prizefighter tournament, as it could be an explosive fight.

David Barnes is next, with odds of +500 to win at BetUS. As was mentioned, he beat Colin Lynes for the British light welterweight title, but he was stripped of it at the end of last year. He was also the British welterweight champion for almost 2 years, and he vacated the title when he ran out of time to defend it. Barnes has only 1 career loss, though, and he is certainly one of Britain’s top light welterweights.

The full odds on offer at BetUS for the Prizefighter light welterweight tournament are:

Gavin Rees +200
Colin Lynes +250
David Barnes +500
Michael Grant +800
Ted Bami +900
Barris Jones +1000
Jason Cook +1200
Young Mutley +2000

It promises to be an exciting tournament, but a wager always makes the fights more fun to watch. BetUS has a generous bonus program, so new members can get a bonus of 50% on first and second deposits, allowing for much larger initial bets. With coverage of almost every major sporting event, BetUS is the place to go when you want to place a bet online.
