NHL Weekend Preview

November 27, 2009

Get ready for a weekend full of hockey.  BetUS has you covered on odds.

Bet on the NHL at BetUS

This is not only the weekend for football fans. Ice hockey fans have plenty to look forward to as well.  This Saturday and Sunday are packed full of the NHL.  Here’s a quick look at some of my top picks starting this Saturday, November 28.

Washington Capitals v Montreal Canadiens
This is the second meeting between these two teams.  They met in Washington just eight days ago, and the Capitals fell to the Canadiens 2-3 despite outshooting Montreal 16-4 in the third period.  They will certainly be looking for some redemption as they head to Montreal. Perhaps the biggest factor in this game is the long injury list on both sides of the ice.

Despite playing without key players such as defenseman Tom Poti and Alex Ovechkin (ejected for running Patrick Kaleta), the Caps managed to pull of a 2-0 win against the Sabres. For the most part they have been starting their games well, taking leads early on.  But, they have struggled to keep it up through the third period.  On the other hand, there are rumors of high tension among the ranks of the Canadiens, with a shoving match breaking out during Friday’s practice.  It will be interesting if this will affect their game on Saturday.

BetUS is offering the following odds:
Puck Line
Capitals: -1 ½ +195
Canadiens: +1 ½ -235
Moneyline
Capitals: -145
Canadiens: +125

New York Rangers v Pittsburgh Penguins
The last time these two teams met it was the beginning of the season, and the Penguins handed the Rangers their first loss.  Plenty has changed since then.  The Penguins have faired well, winning 16 of their 26 games thus far, while the Rangers have taken a turn for the worst.  Despite a seven game winning streak in the beginning of the season, the Rangers have since only managed to chalk up six more wins.  They are entering this competition on a massive 1-5 loss to Tampa Bay.

Though the Penguins are looking strong, they have been struggling to take advantage of key scoring opportunities, particularly when it comes to the power play.  This is something they’ll need to fix up if they want to not only beat the Rangers, but also to successfully defend their Stanley Cup.  The Rangers will need to tighten up in all aspects of the game if their Tampa Bay loss is anything to go by.

BetUS is offering the following odds:
Puck Line
Rangers: +1 ½ -215
Penguins: -1 ½ +175
Moneyline
Rangers: +145
Penguins: -165

Minnesota Wild v Colorado Avalanche
The Avalanche have had a hard time this season when it comes to Minnesota.  The previous two times the teams have met have resulted in wins for the Wild both times.  Will they be able to pull of a sweep?

As all hockey fans know, the Avalanche got off to a brilliant start this season, surprising plenty of people after their horrible season last year.  Unfortunately, they have been struggling over the past couple of weeks and will hope to get a win on the home ice to get back on their track to the playoffs.  In the mean time, the Wild are continuing their effort to move up the Northwest division ladder.  With top scorer Chuck Kobasew finally hitting his stride, the Wild should continue to do well.  Expect the Avs to pick up their pace as well in order to avoid the sweep.

BetUS is offering the following odds:
Puck Line
Wild: +1 ½ -210
Avalanche: -1 ½ +170
Moneyline
Wild: +155
Avalanche: -175

There are plenty of other games on the schedule this weekend, and BetUS is offering odds on them all.  Check it out to put down a wager on any of those mentioned above or any of the others starting this Saturday.
