As the season starts to get down to the home stretch, there are plenty of important divisional matchups kicking off this week. Here is a quick look at some of our top picks in the upcoming Week 9 games.
Baltimore Ravens v Cincinnati Bengals
This is a key AFC North game, as both of these teams are within one game of taking the lead. Baltimore will need a win in this one if they want to stay in contention for the divisional title, otherwise they’ll be put two games behind and face an uphill battle through the rest of the season.
They’re heading to Cincinnati on some good momentum after handing the Broncos their first loss of the season. They’ve got the league’s fourth best scoring offense led by quarterback Joe Flacco who continues to impress. The Bengals are coming off of a bye week and a massive win against the Bears in Week 7. They are known for fourth quarter rallies to chalk up the wins, which is what happened when these two teams last met. They may have the slight edge in this matchup if they can take advantage of Baltimore’s weaker defense, but it will be a close game.
Pointspread
Ravens: -3 Ev
Bengals: +3 -120
Moneyline
Ravens: -140
Bengals: +120
Houston Texans v Indianapolis Colts
The Colts are one of only two teams that remain undefeated as we head into Week 9. However, the competition should heat up as the regular season hits the stretch. Though many might dismiss the Texans as an easy win for the Colts, don’t underestimate this team. They are coming off of another win after routing the Bills in Week 8, and their offense has certainly been shaping up in recent weeks under the guidance of quarterback Matt Schaub. They’ll be hoping to prove that they are indeed real contenders.
The Colts squeaked past the 9ers last week, and are likely hoping to secure their place atop the AFC South. Expect them to pull out all the stops to grab a win in front of the home crowd. This will be an excellent chance to Peyton Manning to grab yet another 300+ yards, but their ability to establish a running game against the Texans will be key this week. It might be a closer game than many are predicting, but the Colts should do well in this one.
Pointspread
Texans: +9 -110
Colts: -9 -110
Moneyline
Texans: +320
Colts: -400
Green Bay Packers v Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Green Bay had an emotional loss last week at home when Brett Favre and the Vikings marched onto Lambeau Field and handed them a 38-26 loss. They’ll surely need a win to help them get back on track, and a matchup with the only winless team in the NFL couldn’t be more appropriate at this point in the season. As the Buccaneers continue to struggle, with little to suggest that they’re improving, there isn’t much to be said other than Green Bay should win.
Pointspread
Packers: -10 -110
Buccaneers: +10 -110
Moneyline
Packers: -450
Buccaneers: +350
Miami Dolphins v New England Patriots
With the Jets and the Bills falling behind in the AFC East, it looks like it’s going to be a showdown between the Dolphins and the Patriots, which is going to make this one interesting game. The Pats are heavy favorites in this matchup and for good reason. In their last two games, they have outscored their opponents by a combined 94-7 with star quarterback Tom Brady throwing an impressive nine touchdowns. Add to that the fact that they are fresh off of a bye week and you’ve got a team that should surely win this confrontation.
Not so fast though as the Dolphins are hoping to continue with another win on the road after defeating the Jets last week. They’re two games behind the Pats in the AFC East race, and will need a win if they want to be playoff contenders. With the infamous ‘WildCat’ offense proving to be ineffective in recent games, they will need to up both their passing and running game if they want to beat the Patriots. Expect a hard fought battle between these two teams with the Patriots ultimately taking the win.
Pointspread
Dolphins: +10 ½
Patriots: -10 ½
Moneyline
Dolphins: +450
Patriots: -600
Detroit Lions v Seattle Seahawks
Both of these teams are struggling this season to say the least. The Lions has a single win thus snapping their record setting 19 game losing streak. However, it looks like they’ve started a new losing streak, as they haven’t won a game since. The Seahawks have desperately been trying to find consistency. The fact that the game is in Seattle is a distinct advantage as the ‘Hawks play hard on the home field. Expect another loss for the Lions.
Pointspread
Lions: +10 -110
Seahawks: -10 -110
Moneyline
Lions: +400
Seahawks: -500
Dallas Cowboys v Philadelphia Eagles
These two teams are tied for first place in their division. Both are coming off of big wins with the Cowboys topping the Seahawks, the Falcons, and the Chiefs in the last three weeks, and the Eagles clobbering the Giants and Redskins in the past two weeks. Both are looking stronger as the season rolls on and this should be a pretty great game.
The Eagles have DeSean Jackson and are hopeful that Brian Westbrook will be returning, giving Philly a slight edge when it comes to offense. If they can keep up with that amazing pass/rush game they established against New York last week, they should be able to give Dallas a run for their money. Dallas will need the best from quarterback Tony Romo & Co if they want to grab this win. Expect a close game between these two divisional rivals.
Pointspread
Cowboys: +3 -120
Eagles: -3 Ev
Moneyline
Cowboys: +120
Eagles: -140
MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL
Pittsburgh Steelers v Denver Broncos
The Broncos might just be staring down their second loss of the season as this Monday nigh matchup draws nearer. The Steelers have been steadily gathering steam as the season rolls on, handing Minnesota their first loss of the season in Week 7. They should be well rested and ready to play after their bye week, which makes them a pretty tough competitor indeed. The Broncos are fresh off their first loss of the season after falling to the Ravens last week. Coach Josh McDaniels is facing some adversity for the first time this season causing many to wonder if he’ll be able to overcome in order to grab a win at home on Monday night.
The Steelers have a pretty powerful defense that uses the same highly physical style as Baltimore. They have all of the potential to overpower the Bronco’s offense to grab win. Expect a very close game between these two teams with the Steelers just getting by.
Pointspread
Steelers: -3 Ev
Broncos: +3 -120
Moneyline
Steelers: -140
Broncos: +120
