Champions League - Round 4

TheDoctor
November 2, 2009

We are now into the business end of the UEFA Champions League, and with so much at stake this round, there is bound to be plenty of action. BetUS has posted odds on every match to be played this Tuesday and Wednesday.

Champions League Round 4

AC Milan: +165
Draw: +230
Real Madrid: +155

AC Milan vs. Real Madrid: Group C is extremely tight at the moment, and if AC Milan manage to do the unthinkable again, they will surely have secured a second round berth. After the shock 3-2 victory away from home a fortnight ago, Milan should have all the confidence going into this one.

Real Madrid may have cleaned up Marseille and Zurich with the greatest of ease, but at home against AC Milan they faltered. Madrid are still slight favorites to win, and should be considered a strong possibility if Cristiano Ronaldo manages to prove his fitness. Currently only one point adrift of Barcelona in the La Liga tables, a Champions League win could tip the balance in Madrid’s favor when they return to regular competition.

Atletico Madrid: +330
Draw: +235
Chelsea: -120

Atletico Madrid vs. Chelsea: What is there to say about Atletico’s current season that hasn’t already been said? They are sitting in the relegation zone of La Liga, having only taken seven points from nine games, and they have yet to win a match in the Champions League group stage. With the sort of confidence backing Chelsea, you’d feel it's almost an impossible ask for Atletico.

Their last meeting ended in a 4-0 rout of their opponents, but Chelsea won’t be resting on their laurels. After thrashing Bolton by four goals on Saturday, they have every chance of taking this win and securing a place in the knockout stage. Look for this one to be a high scoring affair.

Rubin Kazan: +625
Draw: +325
Barcelona: -225

Rubin Kazan vs. Barcelona: It’s hard to believe those odds when you first see them. In their last meeting, Rubin Kazan managed a 2-1 victory away from home, at the Nou Camp of all places. Now they return to Russia, ready to welcome the reigning European champions. It will be a tough ask for them to repeat their stellar performance of a fortnight ago, but it is not as unlikely as some may believe.

With only a single point separating first from last in Group F, Barcelona require all three points to give them any level of comfort. A draw could see them pushed out of top spot, and with teams like Dynamo Kyiv and Inter sitting below them, second place is never a safe place to be.

Lyon: +135
Draw: +225
Liverpool: +195

Lyon vs. Liverpool: Three wins from three matches against an indisputably tough group gives Lyon the best chance of progressing. Their victory over Liverpool on match day 3 was late, but well deserved. Another win over the Reds would clinch a place in the next round, and it is easy to see why they are favorites.

This season’s Liverpool is a far cry from last’s. They have fallen down the pecking order in the English Premier League, and have failed to earn points in Europe. A loss in France would surely end their Champions League hopes for 2009, but if they can manage to steal at least a point, they will be right back in contention.

Be sure to check out BetUS for all the latest odds and updates, as they have posted lines on the other 12 games being played over November 3 and 4 as well.
