Ghana, Nigeria, Egypt, and Algeria are all in the mindset that they can win this tournament, and with the results that all four have been producing lately, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see any of them lift the CAN 2010 trophy.

Thursday will host both semi-finals, with the 3rd place playoff on Saturday, and the final on Sunday. BetUS has odds on both semis, so let’s take a look at what’s on offer.

Ghana: +170
Draw: +195
Nigeria: +160

Algeria: +210
Draw: +200
Egypt: +130

Ghana vs. Nigeria: The quarterfinals were all full of incident, but none more so than Ghana’s. There will be few fans of the Black Stars after they knocked out host nation Angola in a 1-0 victory. Their win wasn’t emphatic by any stretch of the imagination, but they certainly have the quality in their line up to win this competition. Neither side has scored too often in the tournament, so expect a close result.

Nigeria could easily be out of the tournament had things gone Zambia’s way on Monday. The nil-all scoreline had to be settled by penalties, and at 5-4, the Nigerians might consider themselves lucky to have progressed. This semi-final berth will prove whether they can rediscover the form that gave them a 3-0 victory over Mozambique. Don’t be surprised if this one goes to penalties, though.

Algeria vs. Egypt: Algeria are undoubtedly the shock appearance in the semis after coming from behind twice to beat the Ivory Coast. When the Elephants scored in the 89th minute, even the commentator thought Algeria were eliminated, but a goal late in stoppage time, and a winner in the first half of extra time saw the Desert Foxes move into the final four.

A slight mistake in the 25th minute was the only blotch on Egypt’s scoresheet since match day one. Coming from behind to beat Cameroon is no easy task, but the Pharaohs managed it with relative ease. Two goals in extra time were enough to set them up against their North African rivals, so we can anticipate a heated contest on Thursday. Keep an eye on BetUS as they will be posting odds on both the final and the third place playoff when the semi-finals are completed. For now, head on over and back your favorite national team.
