2014/2015 Dallas Mavericks Schedule

The Dallas Mavericks' 2014-15 campaign begins where last season's playoff run ended - playing the current NBA champions San Antonio Spurs on the road. The team's schedule is road-heavy to begin the season, as the Mavs will face three road trips of three games or more by mid-January. The team's longest homestand this season will last five games and comes in March against some must-see teams: The Cavs, Clippers, Thunder, Magic, and Grizzlies. As of the 2013 season, the Mavericks have sold out 477 consecutive games since December 15, 2001, the longest currently running sellout streak in North American major league sports, so there is no risk of poor ticket sales.

Dallas Mavericks History

The Dallas Mavericks entered the NBA in 1980 and have become one of the NBA's most popular franchises. The Mavericks were a consistent side in the 1980s during a period in the NBA when the Western Conference was stacked with a number of talented sides. The franchise went through a dire period during the 1990s and did not qualify for the playoffs from 1991 to 2000. They returned to the playoffs in 2001 and became one of the best teams in the NBA led by Dirk Nowitzki and Steve Nash. The Mavericks have qualified for the playoffs for twelve seasons straight and finally broke through for their inaugural NBA Championship when they upset the Miami Heat in 2011. The Mavericks are one of the most consistent franchises in the entire NBA but without Nowitzki in 2014, they may falter.

Dallas Mavericks Star Player: Tyson Chandler

Tyson Chandler was the second overall pick of the 2001 NBA draft by the Los Angeles Clippers, then was immediately traded to the Chicago Bulls. He has also played for the New Orleans Hornets, Charlotte Bobcats, and New York Knicks before transferring back to Dallas for the 2014 season. As starting center for Dallas, he played an integral role in the franchise's first NBA championship in 2011. He was also a member of the United States men's national basketball team's gold medal runs in the 2010 FIBA World Championship and the 2012 Summer Olympics. He was named as an NBA All-Star in 2013 as well as picking up the Defensive Player of the Year award in 2012. Chandler's latest stats include a career-high 28 rebounds for the Knicks in 2013, so hopefully he'll bring his defensive prowess back to Dallas. With Nowitzki becoming a free agent, they need all the assistance they can get.

Dallas Mavericks Star From the Past: Rolando Blackman

Rolando Blackman was selected with the 9th pick of the 1981 NBA draft by the Dallas Mavericks. Blackman had a highly successful career with the Mavericks, leading the side to playoffs on six occasions and was selected in the NBA All-Star team four times. The Panama native finished his career as the leading point scorer in Mavericks history - a record that has now been broken by Dirk Nowitzki. Blackman finished his NBA career at the New York Knicks and is now the assistant coach of the Turkish national basketball team.

Dallas Mavericks Head Coach: Rick Carlisle

Rick Carlisle became a NBA head coach in 2001 and has missed the playoffs just twice in his thirteen year coaching career. Carlisle began his career at the Detroit Pistons (winning the NBA coach of the year award in 2002) before moving to the Indiana Pacers in 2003 and the Dallas Mavericks in 2008. Carlisle has proven to be a successful coach in the playoffs and finally broke through for a maiden NBA Championship in 2011. In doing this be became one of only eleven people in NBA history win a Championship as both a player and a coach. Carlisle is one of the most respected coaches in the NBA and is locked into a long-term deal with the Mavericks.
