Atlanta Hawks


The Hawks Franchise was established in 1946 and played in four different cities before settling in Atlanta in 1968. The team had its most successful period when it was based in St Louis winning the 1958 NBA Championship as well as four Western Conference Titles. The Hawks currently own the second longest NBA Championship drought and have not made it past the second round of the NBA playoffs in forty-four years. The Hawks have qualified for the playoffs in the last five seasons and are hoping to finally make a deep playoffs run in the coming seasons.

Boston Celtics


The Boston Celtics were founded in 1946 and since that time have become the most successful franchise in NBA history. The Celtics have won seventeen NBA Championships including eight in a row from 1959 to 1966. Some of the greatest players in the history of the NBA have played for the Celtics with Bill Russell, Larry Bird and John Havlicek spending their entire careers with the franchise. The Celtics have been one of the most consistent sides in recent history and last won the NBA Championship in 2008.

Brooklyn Nets


The Nets franchise entered the ABA in 1967 as the New Jersey Americans before joining the NBA as the New York Nets in 1976. The Nets won the ABA Championship on two occasions but have yet to replicate that success in the NBA. The Nets went closest to scoring an NBA title in 2002 and 2003 where they made back to back NBA Finals but lost to the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs respectively. The Nets have returned to the state of New York and will now play their home games at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Charlotte Hornets


The Charlotte Hornets entered the NBA in 2004 and have had little success. The franchise has qualified for the playoffs just once since joining the league and had one winning season. The Hornets finished the 2011/2012 NBA schedule with the worst record of any team in NBA history and lost the last twenty-three games of the season. The franchise is best known for being owned by the greatest player in NBA history Michael Jordan although he hasn't been able to transfer his success as a player to success as an executive.

Chicago Bulls


The Chicago Bulls entered the NBA in 1966 and had success in their early years without winning an NBA Championship. The history of the franchise changed when they selected Michael Jordan with the third pick of the 1984 NBA draft. Jordan became the driving force behind the greatest dynasty in NBA history and led the franchise to an incredible six NBA Championships in eight seasons. The Bulls struggled after Jordan left the team but in recent seasons, led by Derrick Rose, have become one of the most consistent teams in the NBA.

Cleveland Cavaliers


The Cleveland Cavaliers entered the NBA in 1970 and are still looking for their first NBA Championship. The franchise were consistent playoff qualifiers in the 1970s but generally struggled in the 1980 and 1990s. The Cavaliers fortunes changed when they selected Lebron James with the first pick of the 2003 NBA draft. James led the Cavaliers to the most successful period in their history but failed to win an NBA Championship losing in the 2007 NBA Finals to the San Antonio Spurs. James left the Cavaliers in 2010 and the franchise has struggled since.

Dallas Mavericks


The Denver Nuggets were founded in 1967 and joined the NBA in 1976 after the ABA-NBA merger. The Nuggets were very successful in their early years but were unable to convert regular playoff appearances into an ABA or NBA Championship. The franchise has achieved a similar record in the last decade. They have been regular playoff qualifiers but have been unable to convert this into a Conference or NBA Championship. Despite losing star player Carmelo Anthony the Nuggets have remained a strong side and should continue to be regular playoff qualifiers.

Denver Nuggets


The Denver Nuggets were founded in 1967 and joined the NBA in 1976 after the ABA-NBA merger. Detroit Pistons


The Pistons franchise was founded in 1941 and joined the NBA in 1948. While the franchise was successful in the NBL they struggled for much of their early time in the NBA. It wasn't until the 1980s when the Pistons became a true force in the league with a physical and at times controversial style of play. Their defensive style was successful and the Pistons claimed the 1989 and 1990 NBA Championships. The franchise added another NBA Championship in 2004 but since that time they have struggled both on the court and off. The Pistons have the worst attendance figures in the NBA and haven't had a winning season since 2008.

Golden State Warriors


The Warriors were established in 1946 as the Philadelphia Warriors, moving to San Francisco in 1962 and became known as the Golden State Warriors in 1971. The franchise was one of the most consistent in the NBA from the 1950s to the 1970s and was good enough to win the 1956 and 1975 NBA Championships. However, since 1980 the Warriors have qualified for the playoffs only sporadically and have never looked like becoming contenders again. The franchise has worked hard to put together a competitive squad in recent seasons and is hoping to be rewarded with a playoffs appearance.

Houston Rockets


The Rockets franchise joined the NBA in 1967 based in San Diego but moved to Houston in 1971. The Rockets had varied success in their first decade in the NBA but by the 1980s had developed into one of the best teams in the league. The franchise made their first NBA Finals in 1981 and became even better when they drafted Hakeem Olajuwon in 1984. They made the NBA Finals again in 1986 but didn't win their first NBA Championship until 1994 and claimed back to back titles the following season. The Rockets have struggled in recent seasons but have put together a strong roster and are expected to return to the playoffs during the 2012/2012 NBA schedule.

Indiana Pacers


The Indiana Pacers were founded in 1967 and joined the NBA in 1976 after winning three NBA Championships. The franchise has never been able to replicate their ABA success in the NBA and have never won an NBA Championship. The most successful period for the franchise was in the 1990s culminating in qualifying for the NBA Finals in 2000. The franchise have remained fairly regular playoff qualifiers but haven't made a deep playoffs run since the retirement of Reggie Miller. The Pacers are hoping to build on their recent success and become a true contender in the Eastern Conference.

Los Angeles Clippers


The Clippers franchise entered the NBA as the Buffalo Braves in 1970 before moving to San Diego in 1978 and Los Angeles in 1984. The Clippers have generally been considered the laughing stock of the NBA and haven't achieved much success. They have never even won a Divisional title and are the only NBA team based in California not to have won a NBA Championship. However, in recent seasons the Clippers have put together a strong squad and returned to the playoffs in 2012. Long suffering fans will be desperately hoping the team can win their first title of any kind during the 2012/2013 NBA schedule.

Los Angeles Lakers


The Los Angeles Lakers joined the NBA in 1948 as the Minneapolis Lakers and moved to Los Angeles in 1960. The LA Lakers are one of the most successful franchises in NBA history and have won sixteen NBA Championships and an incredible thirty-one Western Conference Titles. The franchise has been home to some of the biggest names in basketball history including Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Wilt Chamberlain and Kobe Bryant. The Lakers have not missed the playoffs since 1994 and have won five NBA Championships since the turn of the decade. The Lakers are always contenders and that doesn't look like changing anytime soon.

Memphis Grizzlies


The Grizzlies franchise was founded in 1995 as the Vancouver Grizzlies and relocated to Memphis in 2001. The Grizzlies haven't experienced much success in the NBA and have failed to win a single Divisional title. However, their record has improved since moving to Memphis and they have qualified for the playoffs on five occasions. The Grizzlies have made the playoffs for the past two seasons and many experts believe they are set to have their break out year as a franchise during the 2012/2013 NBA schedule.

Miami Heat


The Miami Heat entered the NBA in 1988 as an expansion franchise. The Heat has been very successful in their short history in the league qualifying for the playoffs on sixteen times. Since the franchise drafted Dwayne Wade in the 2003 NBA draft they have been consistent playoff qualifiers and contenders for the NBA Championship. The Heat won their first NBA Championship in 2006 but didn't return to the NBA Finals until they signed Lebron James in 2010. The big three of Wade, James and Chris Bosh has led the Heat to back to back Eastern Conference Titles and the 2012 NBA Championship. The Heat has the potential to win several more Championships in the coming years and become one of the greatest dynasties in NBA history.

Milwaukee Bucks


The Milwaukee Bucks joined the NBA in 1968 and has been fairly successful in their time in the league. Thanks to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar the Bucks had immediate success and became the fastest expansion team in NBA history to win the Championships when it was successful in 1971. Despite being regular playoff qualifiers the Bucks have not won another NBA Championship. The Bucks have struggled in the decade and have appeared in the NBA playoffs just once since 2004. However, they currently have a good, young roster that they hope will return them to their glory days of the 1980s and 1990s.

Minnesota Timberwolves


The Minnesota Timberwolves entered the NBA as an expansion franchise in 1989. The Timberwolves struggled in their early years in the league and didn't make their first playoffs appearance until 1997. However, after 1997 the Timberwolves became one of the leading sides in the NBA and, led by superstar Kevin Garnett, were regular playoff qualifiers. They failed to turn their regular playoff chances into a NBA Championship and a frustrated Garnett left the franchise in 2007. The Timberwolves have not qualified for the playoffs since Garnett's departure but are hoping to improve their record during the 2012/2013 NBA schedule.

New Orleans Hornets


The Hornets franchise entered the NBA in 1988 and moved to New Orleans in 2002. The Hornets have been fairly frequent playoff qualifiers but have never made a deep playoffs run. The franchise has played home to a number of star players such as Alonzo Mourning, Glen Rice, Baron Davis and Chris Paul but most went to on find greater success after leaving the Hornets. The side was without an owner for a couple of seasons but found a new owner in 2012 after winning the right to select Anthony Davis with the first pick of the 2012 NBA draft.

New York Knicks


The New York Knicks were established in 1946 and are one of only two original NBA franchises that are still based in their original city. The Knicks were very successful in their early years but despite qualifying for the NBA finals on three occasions were unable to win an NBA Championship. The franchise became contenders again in the 1970s and won two NBA Championships. The Knicks have qualified for the NBA Finals on two occasions since their last Championship but lost on both occasions. After struggling for most of the 2000s the Knicks have rebuilt their franchise and are one of the leading sides in the Eastern Conference.

Oklahoma City Thunder


The Thunder franchise entered the NBA as the Seattle Supersonics in 1967 and relocated to Oklahoma in 2008. The franchise has been successful in both cities. When based in Seattle the Supersonics qualified for the playoffs on twenty-two occasions, won four Western Conference Titles and won the 1979 NBA Championship. Since moving to Oklahoma they have won their division on two occasions and made the 2012 NBA Finals where they lost the star-studded Miami Heat. The Thunder has an excellent roster and is expected to remain leading contenders for a number of seasons.

Orlando Magic


The Orlando Magic entered the NBA in 1989 as an expansion franchise. The Magic have been a consistently successful team but are yet to break through to win an NBA Championship. The franchise has twice qualified for the NBA Finals losing to the Houston Rockets in 1995 and the Los Angeles Lakers in 2009. The Magic have been regular playoff qualifiers in recent season's thanks largely to the efforts of superstar Dwight Howard. With Howard joining the Lakers the Magic may be forced to go through a rebuilding process over the next few seasons.

Philadelphia 76ers


The Philadelphia 76ers were originally established at the Syracuse Nationals and were one of the foundations teams of the NBA. The 76ers (still known as the Nationals) won their first NBA Championship in 1955. The franchise moved to Philadelphia in 1963 and won another title just four years later and added another NBA Championship in 1983. The 76ers have struggled since their last Championship although, led by Allen Iverson, they won the 2001 Eastern Conference Title. The franchise has rebuilt their squad in recent seasons and qualified for the NBA playoffs in 2012.

Phoenix Suns


The Phoenix Suns entered the NBA in 1968. The Suns have had great success since joining the league but have never won a NBA Championship. They reached the NBA Finals in 1976 and 1993 but lost to the Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls respectively. The Suns have been regular playoff qualifiers in the last ten years but despite having a star studded roster have failed to progress past the Western Conference Finals. The franchise is currently going through a rebuilding process after missing the last two NBA playoffs.

Portland Trail Blazers


The Portland Trail Blazers entered the NBA in 1970. Although they don't receive the media coverage of a number of other franchises the Trail Blazers have been one of the most consistent sides in NBA history. The Trail Blazers have qualified for the playoffs on twenty-nine occasions and their run of twenty-one straight appearances from 1983 to 2003 is the second longest streak in NBA history. The Trail Blazers won the 1977 NBA Championship as well as the 1990 and 1992 Western Conference Title. The franchise had an uncharacteristically poor season during the 2011/2012 NBA schedule and will be looking to bounce back this season.

Sacramento Kings


The Kings franchise entered the NBA in 1945 as the Rochester Royals before moving to Cincinnati and Kansas City before settling in Sacramento. The franchise won the NBA Championship in 1951 but since that time haven't returned to the NBA Finals, a drought that is the longest in NBA history. The Kings most successful period, after the 1950s, was in the early 2000s when they qualified for the playoffs in seven straight years. The Kings have struggled in recent seasons and their future in Sacramento appears uncertain.

San Antonio Spurs


The San Antonio Spurs entered the NBA in 1976 as part of the ABA/NBA merger. The Spurs have experience a great deal of success since joining the league especially in the last twenty years. The franchise has missed the playoffs just four times in their existence and since 1990 they have missed the playoffs on just one occasion and have won four NBA Championships. Led by Tim Duncan the Spurs have won more than fifty games for the last thirteen seasons and are consistent contenders for the NBA Championship. The franchise is desperate to add a fifth NBA Championship to their record books before Duncan retires.

Toronto Raptors


The Toronto Raptors entered the NBA in 1995 as part of the leagues expansion into Canada. The Raptors have generally struggled on the court throughout their short history but have remained popular and their attendance levels are one of the best in the league. The most successful period for the franchise was from 2000 to 2002 when, led by Vince Carter, they qualified for the NBA playoffs. The side won their first Divisional title in 2007 but since the departure of Chris Bosh have not had a winning season.

Utah Jazz


The Jazz franchise joined the NBA in 1974 as the New Orleans Jazz before moving to Utah in 1979. The Jazz struggled in their early years in the league but became a dominant side in the late 1980s and 1990s led by the one-two combination of John Stockton and Karl Malone. The Jazz made the 1997 and 1998 NBA Finals but lost on both occasions to the Chicago Bulls. The franchise has never reached these heights again but has been regular playoff qualifiers the last five years. The Jazz generally fly under the radar but very rarely produce a poor season.

Washington Wizards


The Wizards franchise entered the NBA in 1961 and was based in Chicago and Baltimore before settling in Washington. The franchise had its most successful period in the 1970s when it won four Eastern Conference Titles as well as the 1978 NBA Championship. The Wizards have never returned to these heights and have been inconsistent playoff qualifiers in the last thirty years. Even the great Michael Jordan wasn't able to lead the Wizards to the playoffs. The Wizards have struggled in recent seasons but with a strong young roster there is hope for the future.
