2013 NBA Playoffs
After a long regular season schedule the business end of the NBA season - the 2013 NBA Playoffs - are finally here.
Although there are sixteen teams still in the running for the NBA Championship there are only a few teams that are considered a legitimate chance to win the title by online sportsbooks.
The clear betting favorite to win the 2013 NBA Championship is the star-studded Miami Heat. The Heat are attempting to defend the NBA Title they won in 2012 and led by the in-form Lebron James they will be very tough to beat and their NBA Championship odds of -150 are well and truly justified.
Last year's runner-ups the Oklahoma City Thunder are on the second line of NBA playoffs betting at odds of +425. The Thunder has had another stellar season but they have a poor record against the Heat and will have to get through the tough Western Conference side of the draw.
The New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs are the only other sides given a real chance to win the NBA Championship by online sportsbooks. The Knicks are currently available at odds of +1500 in the NBA Championship betting market while the consistent Spurs side is available at a shorter quote of +900.
The twelve other franchises taking place in the NBA playoffs are given very little chance to go all the way and win the NBA Championship. The Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Denver Nuggets and Indiana Pacers are all even of the fifth line of NBA Playoffs betting markets at odds of 26/1. These teams have the chance to win their first round match-up but are unlikely to go all the way.
The Memphis Grizzlies, Chicago Bulls, Brooklyn Nets, Boston Celtics, Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bucks are expected to be cannon fodder in the 2013 NBA Playoffs and are all available at extremely generous odds to win the 2013 NBA Championship.
Listed below are our statistical betting previews for every 2013 NBA playoffs game. These betting previews have been an extremely useful tool for NBA bettors during the 2012/2013 NBA schedule and we expect them to be just as handy for 2013 NBA playoffs betting.
2013 NBA Playoffs Round Two
The Miami Heat advanced to the second round of the NBA playoffs with a comfortable series victory over the Milwaukee Bucks while the Bulls were made to work in their series against the Brooklyn Nets. The Bulls and Heat met four times during the 2013 NBA schedule and recorded two wins apiece. The Bulls roster is currently battling a number of injury issues and it is doubtful they have the depth to compete with the star-studded Heat over a seven game series. Chicago has shown a great deal of character to make it this far in the season without superstar Derrick Rose but expect their season to be ended by the Heat. The Heat's NBA odds aren't great but they are a good addition to NBA accumulator bets.
(2) New York Knicks vs (3) Indiana Pacers
The New York Knicks and Indiana Pacers both required six games to advance to the second round of the NBA playoffs. This is a very difficult match-up for the Knicks who have struggled against the defensive and physical style of play that the Pacers always bring to the court. The Knicks rely heavily on the scoring threat of Carmelo Anthony outside the three point line but the Pacers have the best perimeter defense in the NBA. This series is highly likely to last six or seven games and the Pacers should be able to grind out a narrow victory. At their current odds of +145 the Pacers are the best NBA betting option of the 2013 NBA playoffs.Western Conference
(1) Oklahoma City Thunder vs (5) Memphis Grizzlies
The Memphis Grizzlies will be full of confidence after upsetting the Los Angeles Clippers and face an Oklahoma City Thunder outfit missing star point guard Russell Westbrook. The clear x-factor in this series is the Thunder's Kevin Durant who is, by far, the most talented player on the roster of either side. Whether the point scoring prowess of Durant is enough to overcome the all-round team effort of the Grizzlies will decide who advances to the Conference Finals. This series has seven tight games written all over it and at their current odds of +110 in NBA betting markets with online sportsbooks the Grizzlies are an excellent sports betting option.
This will be without a doubt the most exciting series in the second round of the 2013 NBA playoffs. The Warriors have taken the NBA by storm with their exciting style of Basketball in recent months and were thoroughly deserving of their series victory over the Denver Nuggets. The Spurs produced a typical polished performance to sweep the Los Angeles Lakers and will be looking to repeat this against the Warriors. The Spurs won three of their four contests against the Warriors this season and appeared to have recaptured their form after a brief slump at the end of the regular season schedule. San Antonio should be able to advance to the NBA Conference Finals and although they don't represent good value at their current odds this is a series NBA fans will not want to miss.
2013 NBA Playoffs First Round
The Miami Heat head into this series against the Milwaukee Bucks as one of the shortest priced favorites in the history of NBA playoffs betting. The Heat, led by superstars Lebron James and Dwayne Wade, are expected to cruise through this series effortlessly and it would be a major surprise if they were not victorious four games to zero. The Bucks will take confidence from their victory over the Heat at the end of 2012 but it is extremely difficult to see them being victorious in a seven game series. The Heat are an extremely safe betting option.
The New York Knicks have been in excellent form but face a tough first round series against the Boston Celtics. Despite their aging roster the Celtics, led by Kevin Garnett, can never be ruled out and have caused some major NBA playoffs shocks in recent seasons. The Knicks have an excellent opportunity to make their first deep NBA playoffs run for well over a decade but at their current odds of +475 the Celtics are worth a speculative bet.
The Indiana Pacers have surpassed all expectations this season and head into this series as firm favorites. The Pacers defense is by far the best in the NBA and the Atlanta Hawks, without star Lou Williams, will struggle to score against this elite unit. The Pacers are very consistent and rarely lose to a team that they are expected to beat so they should be able to advance to the second round of the playoffs without too much trouble.
This should be the most competitive series in the first round of the 2013 NBA playoffs. Even without injured franchise player Derrick Rose the Bulls have made a strong run this season and will fancy their chances against the Brooklyn Nets. Online sportsbooks appear to have underrated the Bulls and their first round odds of +185 make them the best NBA playoffs betting option of the opening round.Western Conference
This meeting is a chance for revenge for Houston Rockets star James Harden who was traded away by the Oklahoma City Thunder only a week before the start of the 2012/2013 NBA schedule. Harden will be extremely motivated but is unlikely to recieve the support his needs from his teammates to lead the Rockets to an unlikely upset. The Thunder have too much quality and should be able to win comfortably.
Despite their inconsistent form throughout the 2012/2013 NBA schedule the Los Angeles Lakers are one team every other franchise was looking to avoid in the opening round of the NBA playoffs. The Lakers are undefeated since losing Kobe Bryant to injury, including a victory over the Spurs. However, the Spurs are not a team that is overwhelmed by big games and over a seven game series their consistency and depth should be enough to get them over a line.
Neither of these sides is expected to make a deep run during the 2013 NBA playoffs but that shouldn't stop this from being an extremely entertaining series. Both these teams play attractive Basketball and every game should be free flowing and high scoring. Warriors point guard Stephen Curry has been in career best form and is good enough to lead the Warriors to an upset win. At their current odds of +575 they are well worth a bet to win this series.
This series is a rematch from the 2012 NBA playoffs when the Los Angeles Clippers defeated the Memphis Grizzlies four games to three in the opening round. This series is expected to be another tight affair with both sides having the upper hand in certain aspects of the game. The dual threat of Chris Paul and Blake Griffin make the Clippers a very difficult opposition and they should be able to advance to the second round of the NBA playoffs once again.
