Quarterback: Ben Roethlisberger
Ben Roethlisberger was selected with the 11th pick of the 2004 NFL draft. Roethlisberger is one of the most successful quarterbacks currently playing in the NFL. Roethlisberger was named NFL Rookie of the Year in his first season and led the Steelers to the AFC Conference Championship game. In 2005 became the youngest Super Bowl-winning quarterback in NFL history and the first quarterback to play in two Conference Championships games in his first two seasons. Roethlisberger has since led the Steelers to two more Super Bowls, winning in 2008 and losing in 2010. He has been selected for the AFC Pro Bowl team on two occasions and holds the Steelers franchise record for most pass completions. Roethlisberger will hopefully receive more protection from his defensive line in 2012 and have another strong season.
Offensive Star: Mike Wallace
Mike Wallace was the 84th pick of the 2012 NFL draft. Wallace had a strong rookie season and was the league leader for average yards per reception and Pittsburgh Steelers rookie of the year. Wallace had another excellent season in 2010 and led the NFL with seven 100-yard receiving games. He was selected for the AFC Pro Bowl team after another consistent season in 2011. Wallace is currently involved in a contract dispute with the Steelers and has not reported to any preseason activities. It is vital that the Steelers resign Wallace, before the season begins, as he is easily the sides biggest offensive weapon.
Defensive Star: Troy Polamalu
Troy Polamalu was selected with the 16th pick of the 2003 NFL draft. Since his rookie season Polamalu has been one of the best safeties in the NFL. Polamalu is one of the most popular players in the NFL, with his jersey being the highest seller in the NFL in 2010. Polamalu suffered from a number of nagging injuries in 2011 but he was still able to show case his big play ability. He is the clear leader of the Steelers defense that is the best in the NFL.
Head Coach: Mike Tomlin
Mike Tomlin is one of the youngest head coaches in the NFL. He began his NFL coaching career as a defensive backs coach for the Tampa Buccaneers. Tomlin stayed in that role for five seasons before being named as defensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings. He became just the 10th African-American head coach in NFL history when he was named head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2007. In 2008 he became the youngest Super Bowl winning head coach in NFL history. Despite having an ageing roster, Tomlin has gotten the most out of the Steelers squad and they will be tough to beat again in 2012.
