The pros from the two biggest online poker rooms -  Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars - are having a great WSOP in 2008.

Negreanu, known as 'Kid Poker' won his 4th bracelet in the $2000 Limit Hold'em event. He took home $204,874 and it was his 29th WSOP career cash.

Negreanu cited Mike “the Mouth” Matusow’s victory in the No-Limit Deuce-to-Seven Draw Lowball championship the previous night as a motivating factor in this tournament. With that win, Matusow moved up into a tie with Negreanu with three career WSOP wins. Negreanu half-jokingly said he could not stand for Matusow to be in the same gold bracelet category and promptly “went out tonight and did something about it.”

Fellow Team PokerStars member, Barry Greenstein won his 3rd bracelet in the $1,500 Seven Card Razz tournament. He took home $157,619, but usually donates a big portion of his tournament winnings to charity - hence his nickname as 'The Robin Hood of poker".

Another newsworthy winner was Blair Hinkle, who won event #23, a $2,000 NL Hold'em tournament. His brother, Grant Hinkle was the winner of event #2, the $1,500 NL Hold'em. The Hinkle Brothers became only the second tandem of brothers to win gold bracelets. The other is the Pearson Brothers – consisting of Puggy Pearson (three wins in 1973) and J.C. Pearson (one win in 1994).

Here are some more recent bracelet winners.

  • Event #19 - $1,500 Limit Hold'em - Vanessa Selbst
  • Event #20 - $2,000 Limit Hold'em - Daniel Negreanu
  • Event #21 - $5,000 NL Hold'em - Scott Seiver

  • Event #24 - $2,500 PL/HPL Omaha Max Pescatori
  • Event #25 - $10,000 Heads UpKenny Tran
  • Event #26 - $1,500 Seven Card RazzBarry Greenstein

At the conclusion of event 26, professional players had won 26 bracelets, amateurs 4 and semi-pros 2.

Ed's Note: Pros have won a lot of bracelets at this year's WSOP. Could it be the year that a pro finally breaks through and wins the main event?
