Battle of the planets at PokerStars
April 8, 2008
PokerStars, the world's largest online poker site has launched a new Sit & Go tournament leaderboard promotion.
The 'Battle of the Planets' will pay out over $3,000,0000 per year to participants and started this week.
Whether you play $2 games or $500 tournaments, the Battle of the Planets has a competition for you.
There are eight divisions, each named after one of our solar system's planets in order of size. For example, the Mercury division accounts for Sit'n'Gos with buyins between $1 & $2.99 and the heavyweight Jupiter division includes tournaments with buy-ins of $300 and higher.
Players in each division are also split into 'high orbit' and 'low orbit' groups according to the frequency of their SnG play.
In addition, the weekly top ten players in each division will be eligible to play a monthly freeroll shotout tournament that gives away $50,000 in prize money.
There's a full explanation of how it all works on the PokerStars website.
Each week's action runs Sunday through Saturday, with the specific buy-in levels and the total payouts for each level as follows:
| Division | Buy-in | Low Orbit Prize Pool | High Orbit Prize Pool |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mercury | $1-$2.99 | $1,500 | $1,500 |
| Mars | $3-$4.99 | $2,000 | $2,000 |
| Venus | $5-$9.99 | $2,500 | $2,500 |
| Earth | $10-$19.99 | $3,000 | $3,000 |
| Neptune | $20-$49.99 | $3,500 | $3,500 |
| Uranus | $50-$99.99 | $4,000 | $4,000 |
| Saturn | $100-$299.99 | $4,500 | $4,500 |
| Jupiter | $300+ | $5,000 | $5,000 |
Poor old Pluto has been re-classified to being a planetoid these days, so it misses out on having a division named after it.
This great promotion is another reason to play at PokerStars. As if there weren't enough reasons already!
