2012 NCAA Football Week 5 – Best Bets

on September 28, 2012

The first month of the 2012 NCAA College Football season has been completed. We are now entering the most exciting part of the season as teams being jockeying for positions in the rankings and must keep winning if they want to qualify for the four-team BCS College Football playoffs. College Football always provides a great deal of gambling opportunities and this week is no exceptions. We have found the best betting opportunities for this week’s games, with a number being available at great odds at Online Sportsbooks.

Florida State to beat the spread (-17) against South Florida (-110 at Bet Online)

Florida State has been in exceptional form this season and is currently the fourth ranked team in the country. Their rushing game has been particularly difficult for opposition teams to stop with James Wilder and Chris Thompson combining in an impressive one-two combination. Because of the strong foundation being set by their running game the Seminoles have had no trouble scoring points in 2012 and are averaging 56.2 points per game.

South Florida has lost their last two games and will be extremely disappointed at losing to Ball State in the last two minutes last week. The Bulls defense has not been strong in 2012 and they will have a difficult time shutting down both the running and passing game of the Seminoles.

This game is likely to be a blowout and with the spread set at just seventeen points Florida State is an excellent bet in the spread gambling markets at Online Sportsbooks.

Oregon to beat the spread (-30.5) against Washington State (-110 at Bet Online)

Oregon has been incredibly impressive on both sides of the football in 2012. The Ducks have always been renowned for their innovative and exciting offense but they have improved significantly in defense. They shut out the then 22nd ranked Arizona and recorded four interceptions. This is an extremely worrying sign for Washington State who will have to rely on their passing game as their rushing attack is the second worst in all of College Football.

Washington State defense has been lackluster in 2012 especially against the pass. They will need to improve this significantly if they want to avoid being embarrassed against the high powered Ducks offense. It is vital they put early pressure on Ducks freshman quarterback Marcus Mariota who has the ability to pick apart defenses if he is given time.

The Ducks have won their games by an average of 34.5 points this season and they should improve on this figure against Washington State. Online Sportsbooks are giving them a tough task to beat the spread, by setting a margin of 30.5, but they are more than capable of achieving this. Bet on Oregon to beat the spread at Bet Online.

Baylor to beat the spread (+11) against West Virginia (-110 at Bet Online)

West Virginia will make their Big 12 debut against Baylor this weekend. This should be one of the best games of the week and is incredibly interesting from a betting standpoint. Both sides are 3-0 and have been particularly impressive on offense in 2012.

Baylor were expected to struggle in 2012, with quarterback Robert Griffin III heading to the NFL, but have been surprise packages and are the fifth ranked passing team in all of College Football. Nick Florence has thrived as quarterback, throwing for at least 300 yards and three touchdowns in all three games so far this season. If he can reproduce those numbers against West Virginia the Bears are a chance of causing an upset.

West Virginia also has a high powered offense with quarterback Geno Smith considered a legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate in 2012. They are currently the third best passing team in NCAA football and their running attack has looked dangerous at times. The one question mark looming over the Mountaineers is how their defense will handle taking on a star studded offense?

There is no question that this will be a high scoring affair. However, we believe that Online Sportsbooks have gotten this game wrong and that Baylor are an excellent chance to spring an upset. At these odds they are one of the best gambling plays of the weekend.
