MLB National League Pennant Betting Preview

on August 13, 2012 by Thomas Hackett

Yesterday we analyzed the race for the MLB American League Pennant with the New York Yankees appearing to be the team to beat. Today we will look at the MLB National League Pennant race and see which teams have a chance of representing the National League in the 2012 World Series.

The National League is not as close as the American League with only eight teams a realistic chance of winning the Pennant. The Chicago Cubs, Colorado Rockies, Houston Astros and San Diego Padres are all still a mathematical chance of making the playoffs but it would require a miracle at this stage. They are all currently +40000 ($401) to win the National League Pennant at SBG Global.

On the next line of betting are the: Miami Marlins, Milwaukee Brewers, New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies. These teams are currently at around about +2500 ($26) at SBG Global to win the National League Pennant. It is almost impossible to see any of these teams making the playoffs; let alone making a run at the Pennant.

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Pittsburgh Pirates are both at +1500 ($16) at SBG Global to win the National League Pennant. The Pittsburgh Pirates are excellent value at this price. The Pirates are still a shot at taking the National League Central and an excellent chance of winning a wildcard. They have a relatively easy remaining schedule so their playoff destiny is in their own hands. Arizona are far less likely to make the playoffs with the side having to hope a lot of favorable results go their way in the lead up to October.

At +750 ($8.50) at SBG Global are the Los Angeles Dodgers and St Louis Cardinals. The Dodgers are in a position, at the moment, were it appears they will have to win their division to make the playoffs. They just haven’t won enough games to be a legitimate shot at qualifying for a wildcard berth. The Cardinals on the other hand appear well placed to qualify for the playoffs and give themselves a shot at retaining their World Series Crown. They are unlikely to catch the Reds to win their division but are an excellent chance of qualifying for a wildcard.

The Atlanta Braves and San Francisco Giants are well in the market at +480 ($5.80) at SBG Global to win the National League Pennant. The Braves are almost certainly heading for October action with a wildcard berth almost wrapped up. The side has shown great character this season ignoring a mammoth injury toll to keep on winning games. If they are fully fit heading into the playoffs they could go all the way. The Giants are facing stiff competition from the Dodgers to win the National League West. Like the Dodgers they must win the division to qualify for the playoffs as they haven’t done enough to win a wildcard.

The Cincinnati Reds are almost assured a playoff berth and are clear favorites to win the National League Central. Because of this they are second favorites to win the National League Pennant at +350 at SBG Global The amazing thing is the Reds have achieved this without star Joey Votto. Votto is the best player on the Reds team and they can only improve when he returns. They may just be the team to beat in the race for the National League Pennant.

The favorite for the National League Pennant are the Washington Nationals who are currently at +340 ($4.4) at SBG Global. The Nationals are guaranteed a playoff spot and should win the National League East comfortably. The Nationals are a young team so a National League Pennant and a World Series berth might be just beyond them this season. There are other sides (such as the Reds, Cardinals and Pirates) that are better value with Online Sportsbook
