The 100m sprint is the blue ribbon event of any Olympics. Past winners such as: Jesse Owens, Donovan Bailey, Maurice Greene and Usain Bolt are household names all around the world.
The 100m is always a good betting race because, as Yohan Blake showed when he defeated Bolt at the Jamaican Olympic trials, anything can happen.
You can bet on the 100m sprint and many other Olympic events at Intertops.
The favorite is the defending Olympic champion Usain Bolt. Bolt became an international megastar at the 2008 Beijing Olympics when he won the 100m/200m double, both in world record time. Until last year it appeared that Bolt was invincible but recently this has changed. At last year’s world championship Bolt was disqualified in 100m final, with Yohan Blake going on to win gold. This year, at the Jamaican trials Blake shocked the world by beating Bolt. Bolt is a confident athlete who outwardly doesn’t appear to have been effected by these defeats. However, his camp has to be worried about his form, especially his start. If Bolt is to win his second 100m crown he must start better than he did at the trials. Bolt is currently -139 ($1.72) at Intertops.
Yohan Blake is in exceptional form this season running a personal best of 9.75s at the Jamaican trials. Blake’s run at the trials would have filled him with much confidence, proving to himself and the world that he can beat Bolt. Blake has an excellent start which he will need to utilize if he is to win gold. The reigning world champion will make sure that this isn’t a one man race. He is currently at odds of +150 ($2.50) at Intertops.
American Tyson Gay has struggled with injury in recent seasons, but is the only runner in the field who has beaten both Bolt and Blake in the same race. Gay will be looking to make up for a disappointing 2008 Olympics where he failed to qualify for the final. His time of 9.85s, at the United States trials, was good but he must improve on this if he wants to win his first Olympic medal. Gay is at odds of +1200 at Intertops.
Controversial 2004 Olympic Champion Justin Gaitlin is the fourth favorite. After winning gold in Athens, Gaitlin tested positive for a banned substance and was suspended from the sport for four years. He returned to the sport in 2010 (after contemplating a career in the NFL) and has made slow and steady improvement, peaking in this year’s Olympic trials where he beat Gay in a time of 9.80s. Gaitlin knows what it takes to win an Olympic final and has to be considered a chance. Intertopshave Gaitlin at +2000 ($21).
Time is running out for Asafa Powell to win an elusive Olympic medal in the 100m. 29 year old Powell has a storied history of choking in big events and will be out to put those demons behind him by medaling in London. Power is listed at +2800 ($29) at Intertops.
Other likely finalists include: Ryan Bailey (+5000), Daniel Bailey (+12500) and Churandy Martina (+12500).
Our Tip: It is set to be an amazing race. Our experts expect Usian Bolt to overcome his pre-game woes to take gold over Yohan Blake and Justin Gaitlin.
Bet on Usain Bolt or any other runner at Intertops.
