2012/2013 Italian Serie A Betting Preview

on August 21, 2012 by Thomas Hackett

Unlike the other major Soccer leagues in Europe, the English Premier League and La Liga, sides can often surprise and win the title in the Italian Serie A. The 2012/2013 season is set to be an extremely tight one with seven teams considered to be chances,by Online Sportsbooks, to win the competition.

Juventus are the defending champions and the side to beat in 2012/2013. Juventus were absolutely superb in 2011/2012, winning the league without losing a single game. The Bianconeri have an excellent squad but their depth may get challenged when the UEFA Champions League begins. Juventus will have to balance their priorities and tough matches in Europe are bound to affect their domestic form. Juventus will not be as dominate as they were last season. They are currently at +115 ($2.15) to win the Scudetto at SBG Global.

AC Milan finished second in 2011/2012 and actually won more matches than Juventus. Milan sold their main attacking weapon Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the off season and is yet to replace him with another goal-scoring option. This means pressure will be on star midfielder Alexandre Pato to step up and score goals from the midfield. Pato has missed a number of games in recent season and will need to stay fit if Milan is too contest for the league title. Milan may struggle without Ibrahimovic in 2012/2013. They are currently at +250 ($3.5) at SBG Global to win the Serie A title.

Inter Milan had an extremely disappointing 2011/2012 season, finishing sixth and missing out on qualification for the Champions League. Inter have been busy in the Summer transfer market; bringing in the talented Rodrigo Palacio, Samir Handanovic and Davide Faraoni. They have still maintained their strong core of experienced leaders with Javier Zanetti and Esteban Cambiasso staying at the club for another year. Inter are set to be the big improvers in 2012/2013. They improved under Andrea Stramaccioni at the end of last season and will be even better after having a full off season with the young manager. At their current price of +460 ($5.60) at SBG Global Inter Milan are excellent value to win the Scudetto.

Other sides in the mix for the title are: AS Roma, Lazio, Napoli and Udinese. Udinese (+3500) were the surprise packages of 2011/2012, finishing third and qualifying for the Champions League. Udinese does not have a strong enough squad to handle both European and domestic football and could really struggle this season. Lazio were very consistent in 2011/2012 and sat 3rd or 4th for the majority of the season. They have a strong squad and at odds of +2500 ($26) are quiet good value. Roma were simply awful in 2011/2012 and will have to improve a great deal to challenge the top sides in 2012/2013. Their odds of +1250 at SBG Global are far too short. Napoli (+1250) juggled a strong run in the Champions League with their Serie A commitments in 2011/2012 and performed admirably in both. They can concentrate on the Serie A this season and should be a leading contender.

This all bodes for an extremely exciting 2012/2013 Serie A season. Italian football is on a high after the national sides’ terrific performance in Euro 2012 so the football should be off the highest caliber.
