The 2012 US Open Tennis Championship beings tomorrow at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows. The Men’s singles title has been shared around in recent years, with four different winners in the last four years. It will be another tight tournament in 2012 with a number of players in the mix to claim the final Grand Slam title of the year. The US Open has been known to throw up some surprising results so there is a lot of great value to be found at Online Sportsbooks.
Defending US Open Champion Novak Djokovic is the favorite for the Men’s Singles title at SBG Global. Djokovic has had a good season in 2012, winning the Australian Open. However, he has not reached the heights of his 2011 season, when he won three of the four Grand Slams, and has lost the world number 1 ranking to Rodger Federer. Djokovic reached the final of the Cincinnati Masters last weekend so he is clearly in good form and like always will be one of the players to beat.
Rodger Federer will be looking to become a six-time US Open champion this week. Federer is currently at +300 ($4) to win the tournament at SBG Global. Federer won his first grand slam in over two years at Wimbledon last month and followed that up with a silver medal at the 2012 London Olympic Games. He is the number one ranked player in the world and has been the most consistent player on tour this year. Federer has an incredible record at Flushing Meadows, winning forty-one matches in a row there from 2004-2009. The Swiss represents terrific value at his current price.
Andy Murray finally broke through for a major title, when he won the gold medal in the London 2012 Olympic Tennis tournament, on home soil at Wimbledon. This victory might be the boost in confidence that Murray needs to claim his first ever Grand Slam title. Murray has gone close at the US Open before, losing to Federer in the 2008 final. However, his record since then has been inconsistent, highlighted by his loss to Stanislas Wawrinka in the third round of the 2010 tournament. At +300 ($4) at SBG Global Murray’s odds are slightly too short to warrant a bet.
Juan Martin Del Potro will be aiming to add to his 2009 US Open title with victory in 2012. Del Potro has not had much success at the US Open, since his 2009 triumph, missing the 2010 tournament through injury and bowing out in the third round last year. Del Potro has been in excellent form of late, winning the bronze medal in the 2012 Olympic tournament and making the semifinals of the Cincinnati Masters. However, he is under an injury cloud with an undiagnosed wrist problem plaguing him against Djokovic in Cincinnati. Because of this injury it is probably wise to steer clear of Del Potro at his current price of +900 at SBG Global.
After the top four the market at SBG Global drops off rapidly. Players at longer odds to keep your eye on are: Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (+2000), David Ferrer (+4000), Fernando Verdasco (+9000), Mardy Fish (+6000) and Marin Cilic (+9000).
The 2012 US Open final is expected to be contested by two of Djokovic, Federer and Murray. However, don’t be surprised if a player at longer odds, like Tsonga or Verdasco, makes a charge to the final.
You can bet on all the US Open action at SBG Global.
