BYU Drops Brandon Davies

on March 2, 2011

It seems that college basketball bettors will have to start taking college conduct codes into account in addition to injuries, as Brigham Young University dropped star player Brandon Davies this week.

You can bet on college basketball at BetUS Sportsbook now, and place an even bigger bet than normal thanks to a 50% bonus on your first deposit!

Sure, a good team may be more than the sum of its players, but it certainly doesn’t hurt to have a talent like Davies on your side. The high scoring Davies is also one of the best rebounders in college basketball right now, and it seems shocking that a college would let go of such an asset.

But suspend Davies they have, and BYU seems unapologetic. Apparently Davies broke some element of the honor code – nothing criminal, and nothing that would get him kicked out of the college apparently, but bad enough that he has been suspended from play for the rest of the season.

While we could understand punters being a bit suspicious of this move, we don’t believe there’s anything funny going on here. Brigham Young University is pretty conservative, so we should be more surprised that this hasn’t happened before.

The honor code includes abstaining from alcohol, tobacco, coffee, tea, and pornography. It also requires chastity outside of marriage and frowns upon swearing. We don’t know what Davies did wrong, and we have only been told that it is worse than not shaving for a day or two, but we suspect that the infraction may still have been quite minor compared to what players on other teams routinely get away with.

It was looking to be a great season for BYU, but now we can’t be sure. We recommend bettors get on over to BetUS Sportsbook now to take advantage of any uncertainty in the NCAA basketball odds and remember to adjust your predictions for the upcoming March Madness tournament now that BYU’s first seed chances are looking shaky.
