Online Gambling Blog

This is where we blog about what's news in the world of Online Gambling.

Sam Querrey won’t have long to celebrate his victory at the ATP Los Angeles – Farmers Classic as he heads into this week’s Legg Mason Classic seeded sixth. The 22-year-old has seen his odds for the US Open shorten as a result of his recent victory, and a follow-up ATP title would be the perfect run into the final Grand Slam of the year.

Other big guns heading to the ATP Washington this week include Tomas Berdych, Andy Roddick, Fernando Verdasco, Marin Cilic, John Isner, and Lleyton Hewitt. Played at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center, all 48 competitors will be fighting for a piece of the $1.4 million prize purse.

The ATP Washington event holds a special significance for the victor, as Juan Martin del Potro – winner of the 2009 Legg Mason Classic and 2009 US Open – can attest to. Former winners of this prestigious event include Andy Roddick, Lleyton Hewitt, and Andre Agassi: all US Open winners as well.

BetUS has a great selection of odds for the upcoming tournament, so be sure to keep updated throughout the week as new matches are made available.

David Nalbandian: -700
Rajeev Ram: +400

While his reign as one of the top three players in the world came to an abrupt end around four years ago, David Nalbandian is intent to get his tennis career back on track. The 28-year-old hasn’t played in a Grand Slam since the 2009 Australian Open, but a good showing at Legg Mason could be just what he needs. Injuries have been the bane of Nalbandian’s career, but you’d be bold to wager against him when fit.

Rajeev Ram may not be the most recognizable name on the ATP Tour, but the American has been a constant at the US Open for the past few years. Ram won his first career title last year at the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships, beating Sam Querrey in straight sets, and while he hasn’t maintained his winning ways Nalbandian will know that he has the ability to cause an upset.

Yen-Hsun Lu: Even
Alejandro Falla: -140

Just months ago Yen-Hsun Lu was a relative unknown in the tennis world. The Chinese Taipei international stunned fans and critics alike after defeating Andy Roddick on his way to the Wimbledon quarterfinals, and he will be keen to keep that form on track through until the end of the season. Despite his great performances on grass, Lu is not tipped to win his first round fixture. An interesting point to note.

Typically a clay court player, Colombian Alejandro Falla has gone through his entire career under the radar. The 26-year-old has never won a title, and only once progressed to the third round of a Grand Slam. These are interesting odds considering Lu’s good form at the moment; expect a tight match.

  • Tuesday saw the beginning of the CONCACAF Champions League for the 2010-11 season, with the Los Angeles Galaxy suffering a serious setback in their hopes to qualify for the prestigious tournament. 16 teams earned a qualification spot, but only eight will progress to the group stage of the Champions League; over the next week we will discover who those teams will be.

While Toronto FC edged past the visiting Honduran outfit Motagua 1-0, the Galaxy were not so composed at The Home Depot Center. Puerto Rico Islanders got off to a flying start, and continued their domination throughout most of the 90 minutes. Goals from David Foley, Nicholas Addlery, and Josh Hansen put the came beyond doubt by the 56th minute, before Addlery completed a brace nine minutes from time. Only a Richard Martinez own goal in this final stages of the game placed a blemish on what was a comprehensive away victory for the Islanders.

In other matches, Santos Laguna and Cruz Azul lifted their hopes for a group stage place in the Champions League after both produced away wins. Returns legs will be played from August 3 – 5.

BetUS has odds on every CONCACAF Champions League fixture this season, including money lines, handicaps, and futures. You can join the online sportsbook today and back your favorite club straight away.

    Seattle Sounders: -325
    Draw: +325
    Isidro Metapan: +850

    Brujas: -125
    Draw: +235
    Joe Public FC: +300

    CD FAS: +105
    Draw: +230
    Xelaju: +210

Seattle Sounders head into their first leg qualifier as heavy favorites to win, although they will have seen exactly what can happen if a team doesn’t respect their opponent. If they are to avoid any sort of similar outcome to that of the Galaxy, the Sounders will have to be at their sharpest. Coming off the back of two straight victories in the MLS will be vital to their confidence, but fatigue could play a role with the squad taking part in their second match in just three days.

Isidro Metapan, on the other hand, have nothing to lose. Despite claiming the Primera Division title in El Salvador last season, they are facing a much more solid unit in Seattle, and playing away from home will no doubt add another challenge to their task ahead. But if the past couple of days have taught us anything, it’s that the underdogs always have a chance of upsetting the big boys.

  • For those of you who missed it, the 2010 Tour de France had some exciting highs and devastating lows. Lance Armstrong, competing in his final year at the tournament, looked to be a major contender for the yellow jersey, but some major crashes in the latter stages of the race destroyed any hopes of a fairytale finish.

Similarly, Cadel Evans was thought to be a serious challenger for the title, and proved his worth by holding the yellow jersey for one stage before a fractured arm all but ended his dreams.

To be honest, there were only two riders that were ever going to win the Tour: Contador and Schleck. Alberto Contador, an all-rounder competing in his third Tour de France, may not have been in the same sort of form as he was 12 months ago, but he still managed to grab victory with a 39-second lead over his Luxembourgian opponent.

Andy Schleck will rue those 39 seconds, especially considering that that is the exact time he lost when he slipped a chain. Nevertheless, the Team Saxo Bank rider is still young and continues to improve with each year, winning the Young Rider Classification for the third consecutive year in 2010.

Unfortunately, the 2010 Tour de France was mainly overshadowed by extreme showings of unsportsmanship. Mark Cavendish got his just desserts when he crashed in the Stage 1 sprint after leaning into an opponent. While the Isle of Man international ended up finishing second in the points classification after winning five stages of the Tour, his Team HTC-Columbia teammate was not so lucky.

In a display worthy of immediate disqualification, Australian rider Mark Renshaw was expelled from the Tour for his actions in Stage 11. Renshaw was seen to clearly change direction in order to cut off opponent Tyler Farrar after first deliberately head-butting Garmin-Transitions’ leadout man Julian Dean. This was the first time a rider has been kicked off the Tour for a non-doping related offence in 13 years.

While the Tour is over for another year, you can still enjoy cycling betting over at BetUS. The 2010 UCI Road World Championships will be held in Melbourne, Australia in just over a month, and BetUS already has some interesting Mark Cavendish vs. The Field odds for you to take a look at.
