EPL Preview – Week 24
Author: TheDoctor4 Feb
There are some big clashes awaiting us this weekend in the Premier League, and BetUS has posted odds on all of them. Let’s not waste any time and get straight into the action.
Liverpool: -120
Draw: +235
Everton: +350
Liverpool vs. Everton: It’s one of the most hotly contested derbies in English football, and you can expect Merseyside to be in full voice come Saturday afternoon. Liverpool have built up a run of form recently, undefeated in their last six matches, and will be keen to follow up on last year’s victory. Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard are still out injured, but the Reds have proven that they require neither star to take points.
Everton have been in even better form; their last nine matches have seen them go unbeaten, and their most recent away match was a victory. Tim Cahill has been incredible, claiming two goals in two matches, while loan signing Landon Donovan will be keen to retain his place before he heads back to parent club LA Galaxy. While the Toffees are big underdogs, they will be out for revenge from the last meeting between these two.
Manchester United: -900
Draw: +750
Portsmouth: +2000
Manchester United vs. Portsmouth: Top of the form board, but two points behind Chelsea, Manchester United need to keep on their current roll if they are to overtake the league leaders. A brilliant win at the Emirates at the weekend proved that they have no problem dispensing with the top clubs, despite their lack of defensive options. This should be a walk in the park for United, but we should be quick to remember that this same outfit was beaten by Burnley earlier in the season.
Avram Grant has had a horrid time at Fratton Park since his arrival. His club is still rooted to the bottom of the leaderboard, and they now face the most in-form team in the competition. It’s hard to see them finding any way to defend against the likes of Wayne Rooney and Nani, but the knowledge that another loss will set them on a three-game losing streak could be enough to inspire them. Any points at Old Trafford will be seen as a massive victory by Pompey fans.
Hull City: +400
Draw: +250
Manchester City: -140
Hull City vs. Manchester City: In the corresponding fixture earlier this season, Hull City managed to fight back and claim a draw against City away from home. They may not have talisman Jimmy Bullard fit to play yet, but the emergence of Tom Cairney has seemingly filled his illustrious boots for the time being. Managing to take a point against league leaders Chelsea is no small task, but the Tigers pulled it off mid-week; you just wonder whether they will have the conditioning to go back to back against another top Premier League club.
Roberto Mancini has had a fairly consistent few weeks with City so far, already earning greater results for the team than Mark Hughes could manage. That said, their last away match saw them defeated by a scoreline of 2-0 at Everton. With the return of Emmanuel Adebayor, the forward ranks have been replenished, and they are strong favorites to take all three points at the KC Stadium.
Chelsea: -125
Draw: +230
Arsenal: +375
Chelsea vs. Arsenal: After all the drama of John Terry’s latest indiscretions, it’s no wonder Chelsea stumbled at the KC on Tuesday. Give credit to Hull for pulling off a remarkable 1-1 draw, but the Blues were certainly not at their best. Whether their captain will remain in charge of the England national team remains to be seen, but what Chelsea need to do now is hit back with a big win at Stamford Bridge. Their home ground has been a fortress this season, but the Gunners will not be looking for two straight losses.
With only a single point from their last two matches, Arsenal have had some trouble finding the back of the net. Arshavin is a man who has been creating plenty of chances, but just lacking that final touch. If not for free-scoring defender Thomas Vermaelen, the Gunners could have been treated to an even bigger upset by Manchester United last week. This will definitely be a close game, as both clubs have plenty to prove.
Keep updated with all the latest Premier League happenings at BetUS, and be sure to place a wager on your favorite team.
