EPL Preview – Week 23
Author: TheDoctor28 Jan
Tired legs and tired minds will be at the heart of this week’s Premer League matches, as footballers attempt to back up from several midweek games. It’s certain to be a brilliant weekend of football, and BetUS has posted odds on every match.
Let’s jump straight into the action and take a look at some of the best fixtures coming up.
Liverpool: -230
Draw: +325
Bolton Wanderers: +650
Liverpool vs. Bolton: Despite a horrendous month of December, Liverpool seem to have turned their backs on a recent form slump. They are undefeated in their last five matches, and have won at home on the previous three occasions. Rafa Benetiz can’t relax just yet, though, as a stumble on Saturday could mean the end of his 5-year tenure. Picking up the likes of Maxi Rodriguez has helped solidify Liverpool’s midfield, but without Fernando Torres it’s always difficult to see how the Reds can win comprehensively.
Under new manager Owen Coyle, Bolton have see a rise in form, taking two wins from four. Still, heading to Anfield is never easy, and his squad hasn’t managed a win in their last six away games. Wanderers will be happy that they are out of the relegation zone for now, but defeat against Liverpool could send them right back to where they don’t want to be.
Hull City: +125
Draw: +225
Wolves: +215
Hull City vs. Wolves: This match will be huge for both clubs. The Tigers’ home form has seen a dip in form of late, but it is still a stronghold, especially against relegation-bound clubs like Wolverhampton. Their opposite fixture earlier in the season produced a goalless draw, but both squads have changed since that first meeting. Hull picked up Egypt international Amr Zaki, and could very well welcome Jimmy Bullard back into the lineup. If Hull wish to avoid the drop this season, they need a result this weekend.
Wolves are only sitting outside of the relegation zone on goal difference, and a loss at the KC could see that go right out the window. Finding Marcus Hahnemann in remarkable form has been an unexpected gift for Mick McCarthy, but relying on their keeper is only one piece of the puzzle. They need to find some action up front, and without an in-form striker we could easily see the teams play out another 0-0 scoreline.
Burnley: +1250
Draw: +420
Chelsea: -400
Burnley vs. Chelsea: The Clarets are currently bottom of the form ladder, coming off three straight losses, and it’s hard to see how that won’t be turned into four come Saturday. New manager Brian Laws has had an awful time since joining Burnley, and facing Chelsea this weekend probably won’t brighten his spirits. Although they’ve only lost once at home this year, it’s hard to see any way that they will take points away from this one.
Life couldn’t be much better for Chelsea at the moment: top of the Premier League, three straight wins, and facing a team in a massive slump. With Didier Drogba returning from the Africa Cup of Nations, things are only looking up for the Pensioners. They are strong favorites to win this one, and anything but all three points will be a shock for Carlo Ancelotti.
Arsenal: +155
Draw: +225
Manchester United: +175
Arsenal vs. Manchester United: A clash of the titans looms this Sunday as the Gunners attempt to jump over United in the title race. The last meeting between these two was close, but ultimately decided by an Arsenal error. The gaffer will be out for a win, and playing at the Emirates should give his squad a decided advantage. Still, without Robin van Persie, and coming off a draw at Aston Villa, there could be a few nervous players going into this match.
United’s away form has been less than vintage, but they have the added advantage of knowing that they’ve already beaten their opponents once this season. Another boost will be their midweek victory over Manchester City; a win that sees them heading to Wembley next month. They are an outside chance of winning, but you can never discount the Red Devils on a run of form. And Wayne Rooney’s form at the moment simply goes without saying.
BetUS have odds on every other match for this weekend, so head on over and make a wager on your favorite club.
