13-4 in week one.

Tom Brady limps off the field

I’m not too unhappy with a 13-4 record in the first week of the NFL season. The first week is always tough to pick.

We didn’t bet on all the games, but made a tidy little profit on the Packers beating the Vikings and the Jets over the Dolphins. We were hoping for some good Karma for both teams after the Favre debacle.

Unfortunately Patriots fans had their spirits crushed for the 2nd NFL game in a row, with NFL MVP Tom Brady being ruled out for the season with a knee injury. Two games ago, they were undefeated in 18 games and looking like the best team in history. Now they are beaten superbowl favorites with no quarerback - fate can be cruel sometimes. At least you’ve still got the Celtics up there to keep you happy Bostonians!

Brady wasn’t the only QB to go down either. It looks like Brodie Croyle, Vince Youny and probably Jeff Garcia will be joining him on the sidelines for a while too.

This has sent the oddsmakers into a tailspin, adjusting the lines for week two’s NFL games. The Patriots would have been as favored as -9 to beat the Jets this week, but with the untried Matt Cassel making his first start since high school at quarterback, they have gone to +1.5 underdogs at the Intertops Sportsbook.

I haven’t worked out our picks for this week yet, but you can bet the Patriots won’t be one of them. Bet on Favre to get the Jets to 2-0 in that one!
